Monet monet monet! May 18, 2009

Posted by Miss Boyd in : 2008-09, Art & Design, P5 , 14comments

Mrs Watson came back to P5B to do some art with us today. We are studying France just now so we were looking at the work of Claude Monet (1840-1926). He was born in Paris and is best known for his painting in the Impressionist era and particularly those painting of his beautiful garden in Giverny. Mrs Watson brought in some amazing objects for us to draw. Let’s see how many you can spot…

We painted black rectangles and squares onto large sheets of paper. Once they are dry they act just like blackboards so we were able to use white coloured pencils to sketch out our animals and flowers. We then named them in French! Can you guess what they mean? We then used chalk and coloured pencils to add the final touch of colour. I think 5B should be very proud. Mrs Watson though that they were fantastic.

Here are the children’s works of art in the making…

P5 Problem Solving at the Law! May 11, 2009

Posted by Miss Boyd in : 2008-09, Achievements, Events, P5, working together , 1 comment so far

P5s were solving problems at the Law with our Countryside Ranger. We had to work in teams to get across a space using only boxes and planks of wood! He made it really difficult and challenging for us though. There was the 2 second rule where we only had 2 seconds to use the equipment otherwise he’d take them away from us! Each class had different tasks but each and every child was involved and challenged in one way or another. Great fun was had by all! (Well done and thank you to the parents who accompanied us!

Judo Champions! May 11, 2009

Posted by Miss Boyd in : 2008-09, Events, P4, P5, working together , add a comment

On Friday 8th May, Peter and Preeti Gardiner came to the Middle Area and Infant Assemblies to show the children some Judo moves. They asked for volunteers from the audience to try on the white jackets and showed them some of the basic Judo moves. It was then the chance for the children who go to Judo to show off some of their skills. We even had a Junior Scottish Bronze Champion amongst us! (Toby Boston in 5C!)

We were so impressed with the skills on show and there were many children so inspired by the assembly that they fancy giving a go themselves! Thank you so much for coming Peter and Preeti. It is always an honour to have you in school.

(Remember, NEVER try these moves at home or outside without mats. You need proper supervision by qualified instructors to carry out the moves.)

Passionate about Poetry April 29, 2009

P5 have been looking at and discussing poetry today. The set worked together and wrote a poem about emotions using a formula. They will be writing their own poems here. Have a read and see what you think.

Write you poem according to this formula:

What colour is the emotion?

What does it taste like?

What does it smell like?

What does it look like?

What does it sound like?

What does it feel like?

Fear

Fear is black like stormy clouds.

It tastes like cold rice pudding.

It smells musty and damp

It looks like a dark lonely street.

It sounds like echoing footsteps,

It feels like being alone

On Wednesday all pupils at law were involved with the send My friend campaign to put pressure on governments to take action for the 70 million children around the world who still do not go to school.

P5A dressed up as characters from their favourite books and did some role play in character and some of them read chapters from their books to the rest of the class. If you would like to find out more, click on this link - THE BIG READ.

N.B Super Souvenirs Shop Open for business April 2, 2009

Posted by smacniven in : 2008-09, Enterprise, P5 , 29comments

P5A have been planning, designing, making, pricing and packaging souvenirs for a class shop as part of our North Berwick topic. They will explain what they made and how much they are charging for their product. Other classes will be invited to come and do some “window shopping”, choosing the things they would buy with £10.00 (pretend money). Then a group will work out which were the most popular products and why. But Well Done to all the pupils who used their imaginations to come up with some super ideas.
