Exciting Eruptions

In P7 today (Thursday 28th) we enjoyed a visit from geologist Steven Wright who taught us lots about rocks and fossils, plate tectonics and volcanoes.
Your task is to add a comment, listing the three most interesting/important things you learned.

I really enjoyed the talk from the geologist

3 of the facts i learned were

1. There are 3 types of rock: metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous
2. Gold silver,rubies ect. come out of volcanoes
3.There can be 2 types of lava: runny and sticky

The three most interesting things I discovered were:
1. The smell of the rocks. One smells of rotten egg, it is sulpher.
2. How many times each volcano exploded.
3. I really enjoyed that we got to try and maqke the volcano explode with the baking powder.

I really like learning about diffrent rocks and thanks to our geologist.

3 facts i learned:
1.that a lava stone is black
2. some rocks smell of rotan eggs
3.That a type of rock would just go right through u and leave a hole in you!

The 3 intresting facts I discovered were

1.There are 2 different types of lava they are thick and runny the thick one takes longer to get down the volcano than the runny one.
2.Stromboly volcano erupts every 15 mins.
3.There is a really light stone called pumis it is the lightest stone ever and it floats.

The talk from the geologist was great.
three things i learned were.

1. there are different kinds of eruptions

I thought the talk was fantastic! A big thanks to Steven for coming all the way from Aberdeen and teaching us lots of cool facts about rocks.
The 3 most interesting facts i learned were;

1. That Stromboli erupts every 20mins.
2. That some rocks smell of rotten eggs. their made of sulfur.
3. That metamorphic rocks come from igneous and sedimentary rock.

1. when he showed us four deadly volcanoes and how they had killed people in the surrounding area.
2. when we got to see and hold the dried lava

1 Looking at the excellent erupting volcano models
2 Being able to smell the rocks which had come from volcano sites and had the smell on them that would have been in the air just before the volcano erupted
3 Actually touching real ash from a volcano and feeling the gritty texture

I really enjoyed the geoligist talk because it was interesting and imformative.
My 3 facts are…
1. There are 10 main active volcanoes around the world (errupt every 1/2 hour.)
2. You get rubies, saphire, gold etc from volcanoes.
3. There are types of rock which are almost impossible to crack.

I loved the visit from the Geoligist.
My 3 favourite facts are
There are lava bombs that can blow holes in you.
Some types of rock are almost impossible to crack.
On Mars is the biggest volcano ever!!

The 3 most interesting things I learnt today were:-

1. some of the rocks from volcanoes called pumice actually float in water for about 10 years!
2. Fossils are the remains of dead animals which have been turned to stone.
3. You get lots of different minerals from volcanoes including gold, silver and diamonds.

This sounds like it’s been a great talk, wish I’d heard it. You’ve all remembered a lot about it, and I’ve learned a lot from your comments.

There are some amazing high quality satellite photos of volcanos on the Volcano World web site - look at the bottom of the column on the right for a link. ;)
