French Club!

At the French club we were learning how to say the numbers up to 12.  We learned some words like the days of the week and the colours.  We also learned how to say hello and goodbye and how to say our name.  On the last day of the club we had a French picnic.  We ate bread, brie, pain au chocolat, fruit and some sweeties.  It was great!

Thank you to Julie who helped us with the French club.  We were very lucky to have her help!

Health Group Recipe Book Launch

I’m sure you will agree that the recipe book is a fantastic page turner!!  The tasters were gobbled up at the book launch yesterday.  Please let us know what you think about the book and the success of any recipes tried out.  Everybody will have received their free copy (if you wish to make a donation, please send money to the office).  If you would like further copies, we are charging £2.00 per copy.  A big thank you to the parents in the health group and PTA for compiling and funding this terrific book and also thanks to the pupil council who helped at the book launch. Happy eating!

Rights Respecting Assembly

We know our rights!Hugo told us we needed waterPrimary 2/7 Rights assembly

Today Primary 2/7 and Miss Ross led our assembly. We discussed the differences between things we wanted and things we needed. Miss Ross told us we were going off to live on a desert island and we had to decide what to take. We decided we needed food, water, our family and a home for our new life. We might want but we did not really need a TV, DVDs and magazines.

On Thursday the 11th June Unicef assessors are coming to visit our school and talk to us about our Rights Respecting Schools work. We are hoping we have done enough to earn the award.

Brilliant Bobbi!

bobbi-trophy2
We are celebrating an outstanding achievement by Bobbi, one of our Primary 2 pupils. She is the recipient of this year’s John Lockhart Young Achievers Award. Though a very modest individual, Bobbi has made some super contributions to fundraising for Simpson’s Maternity Neo Natal Unit within the New Royal Infirmary Of Edinburgh. Bobbi’s inspirational example highlights the wonderful potential of pupils being active and effective contributors to our society and engaging fully in positive citizenship. Well done Bobbi, we are all proud of you! (Hear what Bobbi has to say in the sound clip.)

PowerWise

Primary 1 - 3 were very fortunate today to have an important workshop informing the children about elements of electical safety.  The children had the following comments -

‘I enjoyed meeting Sparky and learning loads about electricity’ - Josh

‘I liked the bit where the lady told us about not putting metal and water near plugs because it is dangerous’ - Elise

‘I learnt not to touch switches with wet hands’ - Samuel

‘If plugs or wires are damaged you can’t fix them so you have to bin them’- Megan

Visit from Farmer Elder

The Primary 1s were delighted to have a visit from Hugo’s dad who told the children all about his interesting job on the farm.

The children shared their thoughts and learning -

‘I now know what they do on a farm’ - Amelia

‘I liked looking at the combine harvester’ - Louise

‘I liked the movies, they showed us what happened on the farm’ - Samuel

‘They don’t just look after animals, they grow stuff’ - Julia

‘We now know why they put tags on cow’s ears’ - Holly

‘I got to hold the plant (wheat)’ - Dean

‘I liked when he showed us the combine harvester’ - Felix

Problem Solving

The outdoor education staff provided an active and interesting morning for our P1 children.  They were involved with problem solving in our school grounds, which included teamwork and trust games. Thankfully the sun shone and the children were all engaged, enjoying their learning.

Spring Fair

We had our annual spring fair on Saturday. There was so much to do and see. The Police brought their van and the Fire Brigade brought one of their engines. We were able to explore their vehicles and hear the siren. In the annexe playground lots of us enjoyed soaking our teachers, Mr Gielty, Mr Crombie and Mr Wood. The coconut shy was a great hit and we worked hard to beat the goalie. In the mainbuilding playground we watched a demonstration of birds of prey. Mrs Swinton was brave enough to hold an Indian Eagle Owl called Expo. In the Main building hall we had our faces painted, covered our arms in transfer tattoos, we made fridge magnets and bought our new school Eco bags. The Baking stall was a great success and many a bargain was bought from the bic a brac stall and bottles won on the tombola. A big thank you to all the staff, PTA and volunteer parents who helped to make the day a great success. We are still counting all the money raised!

Health Week!

Primary 3/9 had great fun during health week.  Here are some photographs of what we did!

Health Week

During our last week of term we held our health week.  The children were actively engaged in learning about how to keep their bodies healthy and fit.  We had many activities including - veginvasion in the nursery, hip-hop, creative health, dental health workshops, aerobics, skipping, judo, fruit smoothie making, shelter building, funky fitness, mental health workshops, a very interesting talk from Lepra and health tuck shop.  We ended our week with a closing assembly and were very fortunate to have Jennifer Macrae as an invited guest.  It was a very busy week with lots of fun and active learning taking place.

We hope you enjoy our photos -
