We have just started our new science topic of electricity. We are trying the new learning outcomes for the Curriculum for Excellence which are:
‘I can design and build a game or model which uses simple components in a series circuit, and explain in simple terms why the circuit works.’
‘I can design a circuit which can be used to sort materials into electrical conductors and insulators. I can identify where conductors and insulators are important in everyday applications.’
This is going to be an exciting topic with the children actively investigating how circuits work and why, ending up with them designing and creating their own working games or models. They will be able to draw the circuit that they intend using and be able to discuss why their models work using appropriate vocabulary.
Some of the Primary 5s were investigating how to make helicopters, computer sound effects and lots more today. We are looking forward to them sharing this knowledge with the rest of the P5s very soon. Well done everyone, you’ve done fantastically well today!
P5 finished part one of their electricity challenge today - they had to come up with a question they would like to research relating to electricity. They had two research sessions and one session to create a display showing what they had found out. Some of the questions the children came up with were, amongst others
‘ How is electricity linked to Global Warming?’
‘ What is the history of electricity?’
‘How much electricity do we use?’
You can see the fruits of their labour above with our brand new classroom display created by themselves!
