Earth Hour

Gullane Primary School has registered for WWF Earth Hour, switch off your lights for an hour this Saturday 8.30pm….read on for details….

Show the world you care!

At 8.30pm on 28 March 2009, WWF wants a billion people to turn off their lights for one hour – WWF’s Earth Hour – sending a powerful message from all around the globe that we want action on climate change.

We want as many people as possible to be involved in this historic global event. Here are just some of the ways you can join in.

http://earthhour.wwf.org.uk/how_you_can_help/individuals/
Every single person who signs up to WWF’s Earth Hour sends the message that they want action to tackle climate change!

If a billion people sign up, the event will create an overwhelming message which WWF will take to world leaders at the UN climate summit in Copenhagen, in December 2009.

So make your statement and add your voice to WWF’s Earth Hour.

Health and fitness

In primary 1/2 we have been sharing information about sports, outdoor play and what we can do at home to exercise and keep fit. The children made secret agent, germ busting,I D cards to encourage everyone to help prevent the spread of infection. I have noted the additional time required for very thorough handwashing and the speedy need for yet another box of tissues! The children have learned a lot about how their bodies work and how their choices influence good health. The children have made some lovely books telling how their chosen character likes to keep fit.

Basketball Training!

Primary 7 began after school basketball training on Wednesday with Mrs Barclay and Mrs MacIver. They will be taking part in a tournament on 4th February and are already working very well as a team.

Here are some pictures of their first training session - they move so fast on court that some of the pictures are a blur!

Our Whole School Scottish Assembly

On Thursday 27th November we had our Scottish assembly. Every class in the school contributed to the assembly by learning poems by heart or dancing. It was fantastic. Here are some clips for you to enjoy:

Eco Questionnaire

To help the Eco Team undertake a review for the school, please take 5 mins to visit the Eco blog (You can also go to the Eco page, then follow the link to the blog).  There you will find a questionnaire to download.  Once you have selected your answers, save the file, and send it back to the school as an attachment.

Thank you!

Vikings

We have been learning about life as a viking living in a settlement in Scotland. Did you know that vikings lived in this area of Scotland? The viking word for street is gate. Westgate in North Berwick has links with vikings. The children have enjoyed this topic and would like to go to Shetland for up-helly-aa celebrations. The children have been very enthusiastic about travelling in longships as long as someone else did the rowing! Dried fish to chew on while sailing doesn’t sound appealing. In our class we have some craftsmen whose skills would have been much valued.

P7 Media Project

The P7 class were joined today by Marjory Sweeney (Drama Specialist) and Brian English (Film Producer) to begin their Media Enterprise Project. We looked at script, scene, camera angles, editing, sound and storyboarding. We also turned a short scene into a film clip. It was a great day. Have a look below at our pics and film and keep checking the Media Project Blog in P7s Blog for more updates.

Puppy Power!

Today Primary 3/4 and 5 were very lucky to meet some special new arrivals in the Chalmers’ home.

Mrs Chalmers very kindly bought the new springer spaniel pups to school for the children (and some of the staff) to meet!

The puppies are adorable and we had a lovely time cuddling them.

Which one is your favourite?

Drums Away!

The children at Gullane Primary school were treated to a drumming taster session from a professional.  Mr Robertson let us hear a range of different drumming styles from reggae to rock.  He has been back every friday since to teach some classes a little bit more about technique.
