We did try to work out when our last hot, sunny holiday was, but failed. Crete last October was a good try but even there we encountered the 100 year storm with waves crashing in and roads turning to dirty brown torrents. Oh well.

So glad to hear that you were able to go diving, even with your sore ankle.

I'm sure your sons will look back and remember this holiday as special, and others like it. I look back on family holidays with enormous nostalgia and affection, especially those spent on remote Scottish islands in lashing wind and rain, and those memories make me determined to make the effort to travel and take my daughter to new places, so she can have that enjoyment too.

It sounds as if you managed to create something rather special on your holidays and to escape completely from the normal run of things. Which of course is what holidays are meant to be all about.

Welcome back!
