TeachMeet08 North
Well eventually I made it to a teachmeet, having missed out on last September’s one at SFL 2007 and Ewan’s Friday night session down at BETT 2008. However it was in large part due to the herculean effort of David acting as chauffeur for 5 of the East Lothian gang. Two and a half hours through Edinburgh’s rush hour and pea soup fog saw us get to the venue at Dewar’s Ice Rink in Perth just in time.
You are probably too young to have encountered “Merlin’s Castle”, an adventure game originally I think on the BBC computer and later transferred to the Mac. You had to wander around the landscape and pick up aids and treasures etc. I’m not sure what the ultimate goal was, I never quite made it to the end. However if you made a wrong move, the screen went white and you were told that “you are lost in a swirling mist” and that you had to start again.
The journey up and back down from Perth reminded me of that.
It was good, as always, to meet people who, to that point, you had only heard of or read about. All the talks were excellent and well received by the twenty five or so talkers and lurkers. Maybe if I feel confident enough that I have something that someone else would wnat to hear, I might pluck up the courage to do 7 or better 2 mins worth.
Thanks Mr W
