Although I must await the board of examiners meeting in September to have my provisional pass confirmed, I now feel confident enough to share my professionalism essay (not to be plagiarised) in case anyone happens to be interested.

The essay is one half of the Module 1 assignment at Edinburgh and I was given the choice of considering professionalism and teaching in the context of current educational issue. I took this choice and used the curriculum for excellence as my issue (as was pretty obvious from my brief obsession with posting on Don’s blog).
I found writing this to be very stimulating, and really forced me to examine the curriculum for excellence. This has been enormously beneficial for me as a teacher - surely the very point of the way the masters route to CTeach has been constructed!
I’m hoping that as my confidence grows, I will be able to post my assignments online before submission and make use of this community (as demonstrated by Margaret). However, as this was my first attempt I really had no idea if I was anywhere near what was required, so I shied away from uploading.
Thanks for all of the assistance, comments and support during module 1.

Thanks for sharing your essay. I found it particularly interesting the way you unpicked the various statements to reveal the underlying thinking.
It doesn’t seem unreasonable to me, though, for the status quo to be ruled out at the start of the consultation process. Given the huge social, technological and political changes over recent years to the external environment, and the well-known dissatisfaction of many students and other stakeholders with the existing system, there would be no votes in proposing the status quo as an acceptable outcome.

I take your point David. I think I may have been slightly pushing the boat out with that one.
Is there, however, a distinction between teaching as a profession ruling out the status quo and a politician/government doing this for us? How empowering is this as a first step to change?
And also, thanks for reading it!!!!
PS - Do you know of a way to embed scribd in edubuzz?

Well done on successfully completing module 1! Using scribd is a great idea … I’ll do it, too.
With nothing better to do on a wet afternoon, I played about and discovered that the code below will let you include your essay in edubuzz. You’ll need to put it inside [ ] for it to show up.
kml_flashembed movie=”http://documents.scribd.com/ScribdViewer.swf?document_id=4451361&access_key=key-11xm6nu69cdoof7aj5hi&page=&version=1&auto_size=true” width=”450″ height=”500″ wmode=”transparent” /
It worked for me in an edubuzz blog I kept previously at

I hope you do blog about your CT journey. I wish I’d started earlier … it certainly kept me focussed during the dissertation stage and the comments I received were extremely helpful … and were included in the writing up stage, too.
I’m off to read your essay now

Sorry, I just realised that I linked that last comment to the class blog which is now run by Miss Law ……. too many blogs

Now I feel very silly, because the post I’m talking about is still awaiting moderation (do you need to have a ‘previously approved comment’ first?)
I’ll repeat it here to avoid any more confusion
Congratulations on successfully completing module 1. Scribd is a great idea — thanks!

I’ll go and have a look at your essay now before I cause any more confusion - hope you do continue to blog about your CT journey. I wish I’d blogged all the way through rather than just at the last hurdle

Hey Margaret,
Firstly, congratulations! Both on the CTeach and the job.
I think you’re comments required moderation/approval because you had included code - quite often a sign of spamming. I think the thread kind of makes sense now that I’ve approved them!!
Cheers for sorting that out the embedding for me. Will try that out next time - although, I think the text size when embedded might cause problems.
Thanks again,
Fearghal

Great work. Well done so far. I recently received my eligibility/registration conformation for enrolling on the CT scheme. I’m just finishing my MSc and then hope to get cracking with it. It seems like it’s been quite a journey for you so far. I’m hoping that my previous work(Msc) will count as APL.
Should be interesting to go through the CT scheme as an Outdoor Education Teacher.I’m not sure if anyone has actually done that yet?
Like the canoe pic.
