Anybody out there?

Published by fkelly at 12:33 pm under Chartered Teacher

Thanks for the welcome back.

I was wondering how many blogs there are out there discussing the CT process so I did a little google search. I was quite shocked to discover how high up I am already!

There’s very little along these lines on the first few pages of a google search. Why is this? Is there a need for a web resource for chartered teachers and those working towards chartered teacher status? If so, what tools would it offer - blog platform such as edubuzz? discussion forums?

Chartered Teachers have been communicating online for some time now, using a range of tools (admittedly with varying degrees of success).

Until recently, the Chartered Teacher area of the GTCS’ Blackboard VLE featured a few discussion boards, a couple of which were regularly and effectively used by several on those on the Chartered Teacher programme. Through this, for example, several CT socials (lunches) have taken place. There was a separate forum for those who have full CT status.

We now have the MyGTCS space (via the GTCS website) which has replaced Blackboard. As I understand, this is being used to discuss CT matters though I’m not sure if it is used to the same extent as previously. Discussions have also taken place within TES forums, for example on the CT review and the proposed Association for Chartered Teachers.

The steering group for the proposed Association have been using a wiki to develop ideas etc and a weblog will be up and running shortly. Additionally, a weblog is likely to run around the time of the GTCS-sponsored Chartered Teacher conference on 7th June.

Thanks for that David. I did eventually find the TES forum, and there was a discussion of the GTCS site on there. They seemed to imply that this was restricted to those following the accreditation route - I’m taking the masters route.

It sounds as though the Association will provide the focal point necessary for this sort of thing - however will this be open to those pursuing CT status as well as those who have attained it already?

    Hi Fearghal

The association is likely to be open to all teachers on the Chartered Teacher programme who have completed at least Module 1. There is an ongoing discussion as to where the associate/full membership divide will sit.

Further information should be available in due course from the steering group (via the Chartered Teacher programme providers). I’m hoping to catch up with Zoe and Gillian at Moray House shortly.

Are you going to conference on 7th June?

Only heard of the conference on here from you. I’m having a bit of a birthday party on the 7th June though, so wont be able to make it.

    Hi

As someone who ‘attained’ CT status a couple of years ago I would have welcomed a more interactive online support network than the GTC Blackboard.

I wonder if setting up such a group within Glow - once all teachers have access (sometime soon) - might be a good idea. That would make it easier for many to communicate across one and all authorities. And it would give us an opportunity to try out the Glow portal for a real purpose.

Good luck, by the way. I did Module 1 at Moray House too.

    Hi there
I think like many when I was studying Chartered Teacher modules at Paisley I used the Blackboard online chat constantly. Online discussions were not only module based but also allowed CTs from other modules to join in discussions on a general discussion board.
The blog format though is an excellent learning log platform along with Hilery ’s suggestion of Glow
