Next stop ….Coral Bay

10 04 2007

We travelled up to Coral Bay next, it took most of the day to drive. On the way we stopped at shell beach. The whole beach is shells , no sand just shells. The next day we went on a glass bottom boat and saw all the coral . I got to feed the. fish off the back of the boat. We tried snorkelling off the back of the boat but the water was choppy and it was too scary. I did some snorkelling in the bay later, which was good fun. I saw a baby sting ray and lots of colourful fish. Mum went on a big trip on a boat to see the whale sharks but they couldn’t find any. She did see lots of other lovely colourful fish and some reef sharks. You can see some of them below

Now we are in Kilbarri . We have been to the Parrot park, one of the parrots said hello.

Bushtucker

10 04 2007

Our last week is in Margaret River which is the wine growing area.We went caneoing up the river with Bushtucker tours and for lunch we ate lots of different bushtucker. Some of it was horrible and some of it was nice. Dad ate a witchety grub. On the tour we went into a small cave that was used by The Aboriginal people many years ago. All the kids got to crawl through a tunnel in the caves, which was a bit scary. The cave was very dark but we had wind up torches.Another day we went on  a bush walk. There are gorges which have been made by the water in the soft sand stone over thousands of years and we had to be very careful because the rocks were very crumbly and we were very high up.

There was a bandicoot who kept coming to our cabin and we fed him grapes.Mum said he looked a bit too much like a rat.

We went to a much bigger cave today which had a lake  in it and we heard all about stalactites (that hang down) and stalacmites (which stick up ).

We will be on our way home soon .

Surfing

25 03 2007

I have been surfing in Lancelin. I managed to stand up 8 times, Alice stood up 5 times , my Dad twice and my Mum not at all!..

The next day we drove up to Geraldton and we stayed 1 night in a backpackers hostel, We all slept in bunk beds , even Mum and Dad.The hostel was a bit smelly! Then we drove up to Monkey Mia . We have seen dolphins in the bay and I got chosen to feed them.

Today we went on a really big boat( a catamaran) on a wildlife cruise , we saw dogongs and more dolphins, but no turtles…

We are staying in a cabin, it is just 1 room with a tiny toilet at the side.

There are 2 emus who just wander around like pets.

I heard your play was good.

Special hello to Caitlin.

Lots of love

Update from Mum

15 03 2007

Hello 2/7

We are having such a busy week we don’t seem to have had time to write up diaries so I thought I’d do it today instead.

On Monday we went to a wildlife park and saw lots of animals. Quite a few of them are marsupials which means they carry their babies in a pouch . We saw kangaroos , koala bears and wombats. We also saw a kookaburra ( I bet Miss Black knows a song about kookaburras).

Here are some photos

Sometimes its easier to view them through this link

Ellie has been suffering from jet lag because of the time difference (when she is having her supper at 6 o’clock, you are all just starting your first lesson), so she has been waking up in the middle of the night or not going to sleep until after midnight!

She is missing you all and wishes she could be in 2 places at the same time.

Nearly every day Alice and Ellie sit down at the kitchen table and do some school work so they don’t get behind, but on Tuesday we did no lessons and spent all day at a place called sci-tech , which is a bit like Dynamic Earth but much , much better. The best thing was this machine which made static electricity and made Ellie’s hair stand on end.. We also got to make a home movie with the whole family in it using special effects.

Weekend Diary

12 03 2007

On Friday I went to Fremantle. It is the port for Perth. Then at night we went to Gloucester Park to see the trotting horses race.

On Saturday I went to the museum . I made a paper numbat, which is a small rare marsupial (like a pointy nosed squirrel) that lives on white-ants . I saw a display about frogs and about the aborigines who were the first Australians 40,000 years ago. There was exhibitions about meteorites and dinosaurs . I also saw a mummified Tasmanian Tiger which is extinct.

On Sunday I went to the Boat Show which is very near us and then went to the beach and caught a small fish in our net. The day was nice and warm (about 30 degrees Celsius). Hope all in 2/7 are well.

Love Ellie
