Module Log

All teachers following the Programme Route are required to keep a record of their progress on a Chartered Teacher Module Log Form (MS Word). The purpose of the Module Log is to help teachers track their progress. The information entered into the log will enable them to create a history of modules completed and must be presented for all modules when making the application for the Professional Award of Chartered Teacher.

I was rather concerned recently to read in the press that consideration is being given to ‘tinkering’ with the Chartered Teacher role and giving Chartered Teachers some ‘management’ responsibilities within schools. Consideration might also be given to Head Teachers having a say in who can/cannot apply for Chartered Teacher. When considering the ‘role’ of Chartered Teachers in schools a great deal of thought will have to be given to why teachers have chosen to go down the CT route. Surely most of them did not want to go into ‘management’. Obviously there is a role in schools for experienced teachers who have a proven ‘good practice’ record but what that role can be will have to be considered by all groups involved i.e. Headteachers, teachers, Unions, Local Authorities, GTCS.
On a different not - I am disappointed to see that there appears to have been no activity on Elchat since November last year.

This is certainly something that should be discussed, Gael. I suppose much of the debate would surround the definition of ‘manager’ as opposed to ‘leader’. I’m all for a role as the latter; less comfortable with the former.

Interesting comment about lack of activity on the blog. I guess, while it seemed like a good idea at the time, there is not a perceived need for such a support network. If there had been then people would have used it. Or perhaps it’s not that simple!
It would be interesting to find out whether people going through the process feel they have enough support and information from their tutors and informal contacts. Or whether they are just so busy that they don’t make time to share experiences in this way.
