We had another meeting of the Chartered Teacher network on 25 September. This was an opportunity for all CTs plus anyone in East Lothian interested in pursuing CT to come along to share practice and get a chance to ask questions and get some much needed support for those in a similar position.
The attendance was a little disapointing and there was discussion about how we encourage more staff to attend this and ensure they get value from it. You’ll see from section 1 in the minutes there’s a few suggestions but basically there are a few questions:
- is twilight the best time?
- could we identify a Friday afternoon that wasn’t be used for a CAT/CPD session - would this be better?
- What format should we consider - a big group meeting, group members sorted into modules to support each other through these, a CT conference, a cluster working model for CTs. Any other suggestions welcome!
I will be emailing out to the group but please post any comments or suggestions here as well. Once I get a response I will send out with a further date for the meeting(s)!

It’s a shame that a few people missed the meeting last time, so I’m posting this twice onto the web and will also send out another reminder! The next meeting of the Chartered Teachers network will take place on 25 Sep from 4.30 - 6 in the large meeting room in John Muir House.
I’ve also attached notes from the last meeting that we had if anyone has any comments.
Look forward to seeing you all there.

Please find below a copy of an email sent out to all staff. If you have not yet completed the survey please click on the link.
Hello,
My name is Joe McGeer and I am presently undertaking a PhD at the University of
Paisley and teaching part time at the University on the Chartered Teacher Programme. I have received permission from your Director to send you this email via the local authority intranet. The purpose of this email is to seek your support and cooperation by completing a questionnaire. My hope is that this research will enable the views of all teachers to be aired and hopefully be taken into account as the Programme is reviewed and presumably restructured. As well as being part of my study I feel it is very important that an independent academic survey, such as this, is undertaken and can make a contribution to the current review. The focus of my research is the Chartered Teacher Programme as a whole, covering its creation, progress to date and options for the future.
The survey will only take about 5 minutes to complete. I am wholly committed to complete confidentiality and anonymity and by undertaking the research in this way I do not have access to any personal information such as your name or email address. Therefore no individual, school or local authority can be identified in the final report or in any other associated correspondence.
I am undertaking this thesis under the supervision of Walter Humes, Research Professor at the University of
Paisley. Professor Humes will be happy to provide further information or clarification should you feel this would be helpful. He can be contacted at walter.humes@paisley.ac.uk.
If you have any further queries with regard to the survey please do not hesitate to contact me at mcgeer@btinternet.com or 01475 639765.
I have piloted the survey and the system appears to work well. It is possible, however, that the local authority firewall may at first prevent access. If this happens you may still access the site by pasting the web address below into your address bar. When you click ‘done’ at the end it automatically sends the results to me and moves you back to the SurveyMonkey homepage. If you are happy to take part in this survey please click on the link below which will take you to the survey site.

Thank you very much for helping me.

Here is the flyer for the CT conference (at long last). If you’re interested please complete and return to the university. This is a free event and the programme looks great. Certainly in line with what this blog has been trying to do - bring people together, share practice and look at the role of the CT within schools and how this fits within the authority.
