NB: BLOG UNDER RENOVATION
…ME:
I am a parent volunteer supporting my child’s local Primary and After School Care Club to promote health, creativity and a spirit of cooperation and achievement for all our children and their community.
My educational background centres on languages, linguistics, semiology and the visual arts. What this means is I’m a genuine victim of blog blether. Should Roget, Merriam-Webster or the OED have missed the nuance, I am personally convinced that somewhere in the etymological roots of all the subjects I’ve studied is the word loquacious, with an at times regrettable tendency towards the verbose.
This is my first blog! Please bear with me while I come to terms with coding, as my typing skills far outweigh my XHTML….
…THIS BLOG:
My job, as special projects manager, was to pull together a proposal that would take into account the needs and ideas of the various people/groups involved. This was a joyful task, as it allowed me to indulge in research and unlocked the floodgates of my imagination. The only downside for me is - would you credit it? - I hate to write. Fortunately, my hindbrain appears to have joined forces with my forebrain. Consequently, the words have plopped on to the page without too many tears.
The first to identify a need were the After School Care Club playleaders, who requested Meccano and Lego sets in response to the children’s preferred play equipment.
The next ideas were my own: 1. Circle Time (games, stories and songs) and 2. sponsorship or funding so that all Humbie Primary students can attend the After School Care Club for at least 1 afternoon per week - should they wish - regardless of ability to pay.
Caroline Keefe (Chair, After School Care Club) came up with the idea of a windmill, while the children suggested:
- a pond
- a Village Hall garden
- an upgrade of the village Play Park
- a vegetable garden
- pedal power for electricity generation and fitness
- kid-generated power to run speed signs
- lights for path between west end of the Village and the Play Park
I can’t tell you how much fun I’ve had drafting the “Taking Care Project: Proposed Phasing”!!
