Their web site, introduced in February 2007, has grown very quickly and features a very high level of “audience participation”, attracting over 700 comments, from mainly parents and students, in its first  5 weeks.

You can see an example here at Andrew’s blog.

Peer feedback and peer assessment are powerful formative assessment practices, and Robert Whiteside is doing this to enable these children to easily and quickly navigate backwards and forwards between one another’s blogs. This way they can practice their reading of what others have written, and use the Comments box to provide feedback or assessment.

By using blogs in this way, peer feedback and peer assessment can be used beyond the boundaries of a single class. Of course, there’s no reason why this approach cannot extend beyond the school itself. That might be of particular value in some rural primaries, where the P3 cohort, for example, is small.

If you’ve an Exc-el / eduBuzz blog, you can now embed PowerPoint slideshows like this from SlideShare into Posts and Pages, thanks to a Plug-in from Koen.

Here’s how to do it. First, activate the SlideShare Plug-in from the Plug-in menu. Next,

For embedding a slideshare object in a blog post enter

[#slideshare id doc#]

into the text area. Remove the # characters - they’re just there to avoid embedding something here!

Replace “id” and “doc” with the corresponding values from the URL of the object. For embedding the presentation at https://s3.amazonaws.com:443/slideshare/… you would enter [#slideshare 4991 ajaxworld-15351#] (without the # characters).

You’ll get these details from the “Embed into your blog” text - you’ll probably need to copy and paste it into Notepad to read it easily.
