We have been finding out about minibeasts and decided to show other classes what we have learned. We produced and performed our own show where we had a dancing caterpillar and sang lots of songs. >

Parent Council Update June 2, 2008

Posted by parentcouncil in : Parent Council , add a comment

The next Parent Council meeting will be held in school on Thursday 19 June at 7.00 pm.  If you wish to raise any issues, please speak to your class rep, contact the school or come along and join us.  Agenda items include Risk Assessment for events, Headteacher’s Report, ELC Literacy Conference, Safeguarding Rural Schools , Fundraising, PC Constitution plus a few other items!

Thank you to everyone for supporting the May Fair – we raised around £900 but we are already planning fundraising events for next session so if you have any suggestions or would like to help us out, please let us know. We still have a small unclaimed raffle prize – if anyone knows ‘ S Berry ’ please contact the school office.

East Lothian Council are running a Target Literacy Conference on 12 June in the Brunton Hall, Musselburgh and are looking for parental representatives – if any parents/carers are interested in attending, please contact me and I will forward the relevant information.

The East Lothian Association of Parent Councils will be meeting up on 5th June so it will be interesting to hear ideas and opinions from other Parent Councils.

Please think about joining our 50/50 Club – a monthly prize draw costing only £2 per month and an easy way to raise funds for school. Money raised each month is split between winners and school fundraising so more members means more prize money and more funds for school. Forms are available from the school office.

congratulations.jpgWe have lots to celebrate today. This morning Lisa and Alex from P6 won the Dunbar round of the Little and Large Cooking Competition at Dunbar Grammar School. They are now in the final which will be held next week at Knox Academy. They cooked a pasta main course followed by banana muffins.

This afternoon all of P7 went to Meadowbank to the Inter-Schools athletics competition - some to compete and others to support the team. We were the defending champions and had a lot to live up to, but we managed a very good third place. We had a lot of excellent sporting performances and a nail-biting finish to the relay final. Congratulations to Fionn for his great long jump effort -streets ahead of the competition!

Murals brighten up our playground May 26, 2008

Last Friday our three murals were mounted on the school building.  Thanks to Laura Young, our mural artist, who worked with all classes to produce these wonderful murals to brighten up our grounds. Two of them are situated in the infant playground at the rear of the school and the third is on the approach ramp to the Nursery.  The Nursery also has a new sign.  Thank you to East Lothian Council Arts Service who gave us financial support towards the project.  Thank you too to the parents  who came and helped supervise the painting and to Mick and Paul for putting them up.
