11. Mrs Janine Macken - October 2, 2008

Dear Miss Fleming and Class P3,

I am sending this message all the way from Sydney, Australia.
I first met Miss Fleming when she came to PLC Sydney as a GAP student in 2003.

At present the teachers, students and most of the secretaries from PLC are having a holiday.

I am working through these holidays. Yesterday at our school there was a possum on the tin roof of the school verandah. He must forgotten to find himself a good hiding spot. As possums usually come out at night and in the day they like to sleep in dark places. Ask Miss Fleming to tell you what animals who come out at night are called.

This morning when I came to work the possum wasn’t on the roof. I wonder where he is sleeping today?

With kind regards

Mrs Macken

12. elps - November 4, 2008

Dear Mrs Macken
Thank you for writing from such a faraway place. Primary 3 know all about possums after reading the book Possum Magic, and we know that their favourite food is VEGEMITE SANDWICHES! Maybe if you leave your lunch out, the possum will come to find it!
In computers on Friday, we are going to write some messages to you - perhaps with some questions about your school. So keep checking the blog!
Love from
Miss Fleming

22. morven - November 9, 2008

hi mrs fleming i had a great day yesterday i went to sophies birthday and had yasmin over at my house to play but my friend noah could not come because he was sick. lots of love morven

23. Mrs Janine Macken - November 22, 2008

Dear Miss Fleming and Class P3,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write to me.I am well thank you. I will try and answer some of your questions.

The possum I saw last holidays on the tin roof was a Ringtail Possum - it was silver grey in colour. I haven’t seen the possum again - perhaps I could do what Miss Fleming suggested and leave a Vegemite sandwich.

As far as I am aware there are seven different types of possums - Pygmy, Brushtail, Striped, Glider, Honey, Scaly-tailed and Ringtail. Possums can also be brown and some are even a gold colour.

Over the years I have seen lots of possums and kangaroos (too many to count), some have been in nature reserves or at the zoo. I have also seen kangaroos when we have been driving in the country.

Where my son lives at Mt Victoria in the Blue Mountains they often have kangaroos eating the grass just outside their house. Years ago we had a mother possum and her baby used to come for a feed of fruit.

In land area I think Australia is about the sixth largest nation. The centre of Australia is very dry. Most people in Australia live in the urban areas, particularly on the eastern side of Australia. Australia is a very diverse country. We have deserts, forests, mountains, lovely beaches, pastures, rainforests, a Great Barrier Reef and National Parks. We also have big cities, large regional areas and tiny country towns. Many parts of Australia are very remote.

The Aboriginal people were the original custodians of our land. We now have people living in Australia who have come from many countries throughout the world. Next time I will tell you about Captain Cook the Englishman who discovered Australia.

The weather can be very hot, especially in January and February. In Sydney the hot weather in summer also brings humidity. Today 22nd November it is snowing in some parts of New South Wales which is very unusual because it is almost our summer.

Where my brother used to live in Western Australia some days in summer the temperature was over 40c.

From your messages it sounds as though you are having a very interesting time with Miss Fleming. The experiment with the houses of the three little pigs sounds like fun.

Morven I do hope your friend Noah is feeling better.

Perhaps one day, when you are older, you might be able to visit Australia.

I hope I have been able to answer some of your questions about Australia.

I am glad you liked the books - I like buying books for presents.

24. morven - November 22, 2008

Dear mrs macken

thank you for your message. I have been eating toasted marshmallows, have you had toasted marshmallows before?

25. morven - November 25, 2008

Hi mrs macken

I am going to school and I wondered if you have seen any more possums recently. When driving recently with my Dad we saw a small young roe deer on the road. It jumped the fence and ran into the woods.

Look forward to hearing from you
Morven

26. Primary Three - November 28, 2008

Dear Mrs Macken

Thank you for your lovely message. How are you getting on in Australia?
The class and Miss Fleming are writing this message to you. We are all thinking of sentences to add to this message.
We never knew some possums could be gold in colour!
What is your son’s name? How is your son getting on?
Have you ever seen a kangaroo in the city?
Is it nice to drive in the Australian countryside?
We liked your message because it was really long and interesting and you told us about possums and kangaroos.
We have learnt alot about possums and kangaroos from your message.
The Great Barrier Reef sounds huge, We wish we could go swimming there. Have you ever seen Finding Nemo? We all like watching Finding Nemo.
We look forward to hearing more information about Australia.
Love from P3

I agree with Rachel and Chris I hope it does start up again. Last time we all had great fun and Miss Fleming was a fab teacher for us.

32. Olivia Christie - October 29, 2009

Also, I think the sight should be updated with more recent things from the classes because right now there isn’t much in the class pages from this year. My class page has stuff from last years P7 and I think it should be updated as we have had lots of fun things going on so far this year. e.g. River Walk, Camp, Our river topic, and also we are doing an assembly tomorrow about school camp so that should be on the blog aswell, well, once we have done it of course!!! I know everyone is very busy, so i was thinking that we could have some pupils who could update the website every so often, that way, it would keep the sight up to date. B)
