Active Travel

Dunbar Primary School encourages pupils to arrive at school under their own steam and is working hard to make this easier for everyone. We all know that fewer cars on our roads is good for the environment and fewer cars at the school gate can make it safer for pupils on their way to and from school. But there are other benefits too:

We very proud of the number of children who walk and cycle to school and we support them by participating in events such as Walk to School Week. We have put together a School Travel Plan which details what we are doing and what else we would like to see. (To find out about Travel Plans, visit the Sustrans website here). The Travel Plan is in the process of being updated and we’d like to incorporate your views, so please do leave comments below.

The recently completed Dunbar Traffic Study has taken on board many of our ideas for improving facilities for pedestrians and cyclists around the school. (This study was carried out by an independent consultancy on behalf of East Lothian Council, so it is not clear how many of the recommendations can become reality, but we will continue to push for improvements though the School Travel Plan.)

[EDIT] The file is now available in MS Word format here.
