This is a copy of an e-mail I sent to the school which seems to be the opposite of your findings.... hopefully an isolated incident?

On Wednesday of this week my daughter Isla and her friend Grace from 2B, were late into the dining hall because they forgot to put their lunchboxes on the trolley in time. After retrieving them they reurned to the hall and sat down. They were immediately informed that they had to leave as the older children would be in soon. When the girls informed this woman (sorry no name) they hadn't started their lunch yet, they were still asked to leave. Needless to say that both girls arrived home that afternoon very hungry and tired.

I appreciate there are a lot of children passing through a area that really is not fit for purpose with due regard to Dunbar PS numbers and you have to make do. However, and somewhat anecdotely, this does not seem to be an isolated incident when I discussed it with several parents.

I hope measures are put in place in the near future that will help alleviate this problem or at least a sympathetic ear is used in a common sense sort of way should avoid something like this ever happening again.

Thankyou so much to everyone who came along and supported us. It was fantastic. The final total, once all monies are in, will be around the £3,000 mark. Not bad.

Wendy Cuthbertson deserves a medal for all her hard work, as does Lorraine McLickie and Susan Guy Ingals. But a crown is needed for Kim and Ibby who left after everyone else and then washed all the glasses on Friday morning.....what can I say?

The only question is will we do it again next year?

Fiona, Alison and I tackled the thistles this afternoon. We didn't quite get them all clear, but it looks a bit better now. We also put down the sea-themed stepping stones made by the children last year. Hopefully this will allow the sea area to look blue. We are going to plant Rudbeckia to provide some autumn yellow colour to look like sand. We still need to think about Autumn blues for the sky. Any ideas?

Anyway, I'm going to try and finish off the weeding on Tuesday afternoon next week if anyone would like to join me...

I'm going to try and make some headway against the thistles in the John Muir Garden on Thursday afternoon. It would be good to have it all tidy for the sports days and the Yosemite visitors. All help gratefully received from 1.30pm on Thursday 29th May

Pumpkins and sweetcorn have been planted in the raised beds. Cucumbers are in grow bags in the greenhouse.
Many flowering plants growing well to sell at the fair, and to plant in the garden.

Much weeding still to do in the p5 john muir garden, but many pupil helpers on friday mornings are making it easier.

we have also been maintaining pathways, and bringing in more plant donations for the school fair....any more are welcome.

In the garden again today, transplanting seedlings. We now have cucumber, pumpkin, sweet corn, sweet peas, lupins, pansies, snap dragons, dahlias, petunias and penstemon seedlings growing on. Morag was concentrating on weeding the P5 John Muir garden.
The pumpkins and sweet corn will be planted out in the raised beds, and hopefully entered into the Dunbar Flower Show later in the year. The cucumbers will have to stay in the greenhouse.
Some of the flowers will be for sale at the fair, but many will go into the garden this year (time permitting!).
Still needing more hands to help us, and more seedling/plant donations both for the garden and to sell at the fair.

I managed to plant up a whole load of seeds in trays in the greenhouse last Friday. Some P7's who were in the garden at the time helped plant pumpkin, and cucumber seeds in trays. We will need to keep an eye on these over the next few weeks as they germinate to make sure they don't dry out or get sun scorch (dream on!!).
I also planted sweet peas in pots with wigwams from last year. I will hopefully be planting more seeds this week.

The flowers in the John Muir garden are up and looking good. I weeded out a lot of docks last week from this area, but this is an ongoing job!

The concrete planter being finished off by Isobel Knox's students is nearing completion...good work, it will be great when this is finished.

There is still lots of waste to clear from around the woodpile so that we can further develop this area.

This week I will be sowing lots of seeds in the greenhouse, flowers and veg, to be put into the garden, and maybe some for sale at the summer fair.

Seed and flower donations are always welcome. If you are clearing an area of your garden, or splitting perennials, don't throw them out...give them to us!

Hopefully the weather will be kinder from now on so we can get into the garden a bit more, and make a real difference to the garden this year.
