Dunbar lies on the east of Scotland between the North Sea and the Lammermuir Hills, about 30 miles from Edinburgh. Formerly a busy fishing port attracting many tourists, Dunbar’s main industries are now with British Energy at Torness Nuclear Power Station and Lafarge Blue Circle Cement Works. Its population is ever increasing due to the several hundreds of houses being built in and around the town. Residents and visitors can enjoy the Splash Leisure Centre and the two fine golf courses plus the many recreation facilities recently enhanced with the creation of Hallhill Healthy Living Centre and Lauderdale Play Park, all with access for the disabled. The main line railway link and the extension of the A1 dual carriageway make Dunbar an ideal choice for commuters working in the capital. Dunbar is very proud of its connection with conservationist John Muir .[More details available on John Muir page]
