Jeans for Genes October 10, 2008
Posted by Aline Denholm in : Events, P5 , add a commentOn Friday 3rd October P5 had an assembly for Jeans for Genes. Everyone who wanted to wear jeans to school had to pay a £1. Many of the staff and children decorated their jeans. The theme for this year’s event was the 1960’s.
Competitions were held during the week. Children were asked to design a 60’s Mod scooter with a passenger. There was also a sheet to guess the teacher from a quote about what they were doing in the 60’s (some people were exempt!).
The winners of the Mod Scooter competition were - Joanna(3C) and Bethany(4A).
The winner of Identify the Teacher was - Jade(5C)
Every class was also asked to decorate a large pair of paper jeans.
The winners of this were - 2C and 3C.
During the week the classes were also selling cakes.
The amount raised is £872.92.
Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped P5 have such a successful week.
National Gallery Visit 5C October 10, 2008
Posted by Aline Denholm in : P5 , add a commentOn Monday 29th September 5C went to the National Gallery of Scotland. We were supposed to be going to the portrait gallery but when we got there luckily a person who worked there told us that we couldn’t because one of the cables snapped so she told us we should go to the other gallery in Princes Street which was only 5 minutes away.
When we got there we all lined up at the desk and 2 ladies came and we gave them our coats and bags.
Then we all stood at the door and our class got seperated into two groups, my group had a teacher called Rosie and the other group had a teacher called Amy. Rosie took us to the first painting it was a painting which was separated into 3 parts.
One part had a man reading the Bible and the second part had a lady taking Jesus of the cross. And the third had a baby holding beads and behind her was the Devil. She told us about the painting and how old it was and then we all had to go back down the stairs to look at the next painting. She showed us quite a lot of paintings.

Posted by Aline Denholm in : P5 , add a commentOn Monday 5C went to the National Gallery. When we got there we put our coats up and got into groups. There was 2 tour guides and I was with one called Rosie. We set of upstairs.
Rosie brought us into a room were there was a tripic. Tripic means a three piece picture. We were looking very close and finding out information. After that we saw the biggest picture in the gallery. She told us they had to fit it through the roof. The picture was called Alexander 3rd.
We learned lots about Old Times and saw loads of pictures. And it was fascinating. My favourite picture was Macbeth by John Martin.
The National Gallery of Scotland is near Princes Street.

We went looking at pictures and chests and statues and golden frames.
I felt the vibrations of the trains. We saw the Roman Numerals near the top of the roof.
At lunch time me and my class went outside for lunch and in the afternoon we drawed some pictures.
