Great Escape
Feb 8th, 2007 by Don Ledingham
I was honoured to meet Melville Carson (87) who came into the office to video conference with two of his former fellow Prisoners of War from Stalag Luft 3. Melville was due to be number 151st on the Harry tunnel but it was discovered before he could escape. He lost 51 of his colleagues who were shot by the Gestapo for daring to escape. The interview was recorded by LTS. A remarkable man.

What a superb historical document to have captured. I can’t wait to see the video.
I wasn’t able to be at the event from our end although I have heard lots about it! I am looking forward to seeing the video too!
I was very pleased to see pictures of my old friend Melville Carson after not having seen each other in more 50 yrs.
Regretfully we have lost contact since oct 2006 and his telephone in Haddington gives no reply.
Would be very grateful to know if and where he can be reached, by phone or mail.
Sorry Jan but we can’t track down his address.
Jan, try 192.com - they list an over-65 Melville F. Carson on the electoral roll.
Sadly Melville died just before midnight on Friday 11th July 2008. He was ill for over two years and during that time showed remarkable fortitude and grace, his love of Christ shining through. He died peacefully having lost consciousness 10 days before. He his survived by his equally inspirational wife, Elizabeth.
