Runs take place from 9am

   

On Friday the 19^th of March we will be having a mile run around the village green. The Enterprise Officers will also be going around the classrooms to do some various activities. So Hannah and Victoria would like it if your child could bring £1 into school and wear sporty clothes possibly red and white. We will also be having a parent competition, if you would also like to join us in our mile run around the green you are welcome to join us.

P6/7 are doing a weather survey in the North Berwick cluster. Every day at 10 o’clock each group goes out to collect information about the temperature,

rainfall in cm, wind speed, air pressure, wind direction, cloud cover, visibility

and dew temperature. To collect information about the weather we made lots of different instruments. We will be comparing our results with other schools.

Dirleton p6/7’s battle of Preston pans morning.

On the 11^th of March p6/7 had visitors who worked on the battle of Preston pans site come to talk to them. First a man called Steve came charging in shouting are you ready to battle and they all got a fright.

 Then Steve took them over to the dining hall. When they got over they found a huge table and houses, it was the battlefield. On the battlefield were tiny soldiers. They were the Jackobite and redcoat army. Steve told them the rules. They had a battle. The Jackobites won.

Once they had finished the battle they were shown the weapons the Jackobites and the redcoats used.

Primary 6 attended a ruby festival at north Berwick high school last week.

The p6 boy’s team were called the Meer cats and the girl’s team were called the  impalas.

We all played 6 matches altogether and we all met 2 players from the Edinburgh team.

We all enjoyed it and when we got back we tolled the school.

On Wednesday the p6’s went to a rugby festival and tried to make some new friends. Everyone had a good time and would like to do something like this again. They had lots of activities and rugby games to play. One of the activities was to kick a rugby ball over the posts, another one was to tackle a sponge cylinder, there was a man who was playing sharks and fishes with the children and was playing a game called snakes. At the end we got to meet two professional rugby players who played for Edinburgh rugby team. We all had a fantastic time. Thank you to all the staff in the school.

Battle of Prestonpans!

Last week on the 11^th of March p6/7 had a visit from the battle of Prestonpans experts. Everyone in the class was drawing pictures when a man called Steve came busting in through the door and shouted “ARE YOU READY TO BATTLE!”

We then went into the dinner hall and there was a big table with little people on it, the Jackobites and Red coats. We then were put into teams and played against each other. It was hard but an amazing victory for the Jackobites. After the game we all came back across into the class room Steve put on some music and everyone had to close their eyes the music had finished Steve and Adam gave everyone a fright. They both started to talk about the battle of Prestonpans.

We had lots of fun last week when two people from Generation Science came in to teach P2 to P7 about the science of weather. They had lots of interactive activities and even a few competitions. I really enjoyed it and I learnt quite alot. My favourite part was when she put dry ice into the hot water, there was smoke everywhere! Everyone got a chance to join in so we didn’t get bored from just listening.

They got the dry ice from the university of Edingburgh where they have freezers which can freeze things at -72c. Dry ice is made by freezing oxygen until it turns into ice. Everybody had so much fun and we’re glad that they could come in and teach  us  more about weather which also helps our project which we are currently working on.
