Creating a blog
You can create a new blog yourself. Here’s what to do.
1. First, go to the Exc-el Edublog centre. It’s at http://edubuzz.org/blogs. Tip: An easy way to find it is to go to the Exc-el home page http://www.exc-el.org.uk - there’s a link there.
2. Click on Create a new blog. If you’re a new user, you’ll be prompted for:
Username: This is the name you’ll use to log into your blog. Tip: Make this the same as your school network login name, and you’ll have one less thing to remember!
Email address: You’ll also be asked for your email address. Any email address is OK, work or home. Tip: You’ll get emails to tell you when anyone posts a comment to your blog, so choose the email address you want these to go to. The email address must be one that hasn’t already been used.
Gimme a blog! / Just a username, please: Watch out here. You want a blog, so just leave this set to “Gimme a blog!” If you change it, no blog will be created. Tip: “Just a username” is for people needing a username to be able to login and contribute to existing blogs. Once their username has been created, any blog administrator can give them rights to contribute to a blog.
Click Next.
3. You’ll then be prompted for
Blog title: This will be displayed in the blog’s header on screen. Tip: Blog search engines such as Technorati will use this to get an idea of what the blog is about, so avoid titles like “My ramblings”. Don’t worry too much about this one, though - it’s easily changed.
