A poem to cheer you up!

Happiness is ……

Riding on a quad bike in the country side all day long,

Swimming with the dolphins in the clear salty water,

Eating marshmallows that have been toasted on the burning hot fire,

Watching White fluffy clouds in the bright blue sky,

Achieving rewards from school and from clubs,

Going to my friend’s farm at the weekend to help with the animals,

Making a tree house in the tallest tree in the forest,

Watching the twinkling stars shine in the sky on a clear night.

Today P7  had their  photo taken  for the Courier beacuse we are nearly at the end of our P7 jouney and are  going to be leaving Croftmalloch forever. Soon (August)t we will be going  to secondary  school to meet new friends and have new school days in harder level of work. It will be very sad leaving Croftmalloch as most of us have been at Crofmalloch  for 9 years !

When the man came  in to take our photograph everyone was very excited as we were going to be in one of  the most sucsessful newspapers ever! Everyone got placed into a position and had to say cheese for the camera ! Hopefully when the P7 pupils leave Croftmalloch they will have a good job and look back at their memories of primary school !

A report about the Arctic

By Bethany Glen

The Arctic is in the North Pole. There is an Arctic circle which is an imaginary circle.

There are lots of countries in the Arctic such as: Canada , Greenland , Denmark, Sweden, Finland,  Iceland and Norway.

The temperature is normally – 40 degrees but the coldest is -68 degrees.

Even though the temperature is very cold wild life still live there such as, Arctic foxes, weasels, Brown lemmings, Arctic hares,  Polar bears, Bowhead whales , Beluga whales , harp seals and walruses.

In the winter the sun never rises in the Arctic. Scientists say in the summer the Arctic was the warmest in 2000.arctic-ice-cave-001

The local people are called Inuits. They build igloos and use them when they are hunting.

They wear reindeer skins to keep warm.

I wouldn’t like to live there because it’s so cold…. and I don’t like the cold!

And neither do I!!!!photo_lg_manitoba1!

Taiko Drummers In Croftmalloch Primary

Posted on June 24th, 2009 in Uncategorized by erose

When I first saw the Mugen Taiko Dojo Drummers at the 2008 Hopetoun House Fair, I thought that they were fantastic! The Japanese form of drumming, taiko (meaning drum),  is extremely energetic and very much like a martial art. In our class we were learning about Japan and I put together a proposal for our head teacher, asking if the taiko group could come and perform for the school and do a workshop with the P7s. After a lot of thought, she agreed. A few friends of mine then helped me organise competitions which were to help us raise funds. These included Guess the Momiji Doll’s Birthday and colourin the Taiko Drum.  These were a huge success and yesterday on the 23rd of June the Mugen Taiko Dojo Drummers came to our school and amazed us all. The performance had a lot of audience participation and by the end of the Japanese drumming experience the P7s were the envy of every other child in the school. The Primary 7s in their workshop learned to play a short piece on the drums called Matsuri Daiko.

Primary 3 go back in time!

Posted on June 17th, 2009 in Uncategorized by erose

In the Victorian ClassroomAs part of our ‘Schools in the Past’ topic, we went on a visit to a Victorian Classroom in Edinburgh. We dressed up in Victorian dress, the girls wearing white pinafores and the boys in shirts and waistcoats. The teachers were very strict and we had to sit up straight with our feet together. We were not allowed to talk. If you were naughty, you had to sit on a stool at the front of the class or you got the belt. We tried copperplate writing with a nib pen and ink. It was quite hard but we did really well. If a Victorian pupil made ink blots they were given the belt for every blot. We had fun, but we like being at Croftmalloch better.

Cinderella Rockerfella

Cinderella Rockerfella at Croftmalloch PS

On 10th and 11th June Primary 6 and 7 of Croftmalloch PS staged a wonderful production of the musical, “Cinderella, Rockerfella”, the love fairytale with a little modern twist.

Cinderella was treated like a slave by her ugly step sisters, Gusty and Nasty who absolutely loved themselves to bits. Buttons and Teaser the dog were Cinderella’s only friends who helped her out all the time. Fairy Nastyboots was an evil fairy who wants to spoil the love story and get her own way.

Rockerfella wanted to get out of showbiz to find true love and happiness. The fairy brigade were trying to stop Fairy Nastyboots in her evil plans. Cinderella and Rockerfella meet at the ball and fall in love and live happily ever after!

Our overall comments were – entertaining, brilliant, funny, amazing, phenomenal, heart warming, mind blowing, interacting with audience, good singing and breathtaking.

Paige’s performance was worth mentioning. She sang well and her duet was especially outstanding.

We loved the Ugly Sisters (Molly and Emma ) who were hilarious.

Fairy Nastyboots played the evil role so professionally we jumped 3 metres in the air and some of us had nightmares that night.
