I was playing for Grangemouth P6/7 against Falkirk.
The referee was my dad, he is also the Grangemouth Mini’s coach. He looks pretty old and we sometimes fall out when he referees but we always fall in again.
The match was going well for Grangemouth, until a huge Falkirk player called Liam crushed the tall thin Birdie. My dad said Liam was probably about 12 stone, which is massive for an 11-year-old boy. Liam also flattened me in a tackle along with four other Grangemouth players. We were playing 4 quarters.
In the first quarter Kyle opened the scoring for Grangemouth, with a fine dance up the touch line. Falkirk then drew level when their scrum half Euan darted in for a try. The first quarter ended 1 try a piece.
In the second quarter Falkirk began to use their weigh advantage to take control of the match. Euan scored another try and the bulky Jonathon barged over the Grangemouth line to take Falkirk two scores ahead. During the second quarter I was taken off with a badly injured face.
I came back on at the start of the third quarter, and got stuck in, making some good hard tackles. Suddenly Grangemouth came back into the match, and it was Kyle again who split the Falkirk defence to score his second try. I was involved in the move that led to Grangemouth’s third try, driving forward close to the Falkirk line, I placed the ball back for Fraser to snap up and pounce over for a well deserved try. The whole Grangemouth team were so excited that they had drawn level.
It was the last 10 minutes of the game when Falkirk managed to get another try from Euan as he picked up a loose ball and sneaked round the tiring Grangemouth defence. However Grangmouth were not going to give up. They continually pushed forward and finally managed to move the ball quickly to Kyle who rushed past desperate Falkirk tackles to score a great try and even the match.
