An East Lothian Teacher (Secondary)
“I was relieved that many of the of the skills involved (in coaching) are also used in teaching. I found lots of the ideas fascinating and thought provoking and by the end of day 1 I felt positive and excited about the way forward”

We have several strands to our Coaching Programme
· What is Coaching
o A basic explanation for those not sure what coaching is (and isn’t!)
· An Introduction to Coaching for Leaders
o A one day course for leaders to introduce the basic skills of coaching
· Coach Development Programme
o A more in depth 6 month programme designed to develop internal coaches to build their own capacity for coaching, for the benefit of staff and pupils.
· Leadership Coaching
o A series of 6 one to one sessions with an experienced coach on professional issues chosen by the coachee (this is only open to senior managers)
This page is to help coaches find people to coach and vice versa, if you’re looking for someone to coach you, look no further…
We currently have 2 coaches, one who has completed the full programme and the other working through it who would like to find volunteers willing to be coached. The coaching agenda would be set by yourself and could cover any professional issue - eg assertiveness, dealing with a difficult situation, workload, etc etc. Everyone is different and there are as many options as there are people. You can see from the quotes above how other EL collegues have found this a really helpful and fulfilling exercise personally and a useful tool to help cope with hectic working lives.
