EVENT:         We are pleased to announce the opening of registration for the 2008 Advanced Topics on Medicine (ATOM) Conference to be held at the Royal Society of Medicine. PURPOSE:   A one-day conference for Year 12 & 13 students interested in a career in medicine. DATE:            This year it is to be held on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th August 2008.

  Topics to be covered that will be useful for medical school applications include:

  • Learn about cutting-edge medical research from around the world from doctors who have flown to the UK to present at the ATOM 2008 Conference. Topics will range from genetics & molecular medicine to international health.
     
  • Practice medical school interviews from medical graduates of Oxford, Cambridge & other medical schools (3 months before interviews begin).
     
  • UCAS personal statement session (2 months before the UCAS deadline).
     
  • Learn about UK and US scholarships and how to apply for them - from medical graduates who have obtained them.
     
  • Learn about highly sought-after summer & gap-year work experience.
     
  • Other sessions include: NHS structure, function & governance, medical ethics and law, brain teasers and current affairs.
