Posted by Miss Collins in : Class work , 1 comment so farToday Group 3 worked with the Adventure Author team on conversation writing and Group 1 then learnt about yet another amazing tool…. more on that tomorrow!
Meanwhile, in the other side of the library, all groups worked with me on synonyms and adjectives.
We all agreed that in our stories our descriptions were an area where we could improve, and as part of our work on story ingredients yesterday we said that good descriptions were essential.
We looked at how some common adjectives like ‘good’ or ‘brave’ could be transformed into impressive adjectives like ‘courageous’ and ‘adventurous’. We chose 3 from a list that we really liked an made mind maps in our Project Journals with synonyms and phrase ideas for our stories.

The programme allows you to create choices for the player and to plan different outcomes according to the choice they make: if you agree to help the bear, it might not eat you!
Groups 2 & 3 also worked on their Project Journals today and started to form ideas about what their story might be: who are the main characters? who are the helpers? who are the villains? what is the quest?
Out of these discussions we also talked about the sort of names characters in the Fantasy genre have, and also what special or magical objects might form part of the player’s quest.

Posted by Miss Collins in : Class work , add a commentToday we worked in groups to brainstorm the ingredients for a good story and what the recipe might be.
Some of our ideas included:
- Beginning, middle & end
- Adventure
- Good description -adjectives
- Humor
Types of characters: Heroes, Villans and Helpers
Other essentials of the plot: Journey/Quest/Mission, and magical objects from pumpkins and cauldrons to swords and wands.
All of these are needed, and in the right order, to make a great story!

We have split into three groups, and have been taking it in turns to work on the laptops with the Adventure Author team. The other groups have been continuing the storyline work with me (Miss Collins) and starting their project journals. The journals will be a place to record ideas and images for the game and their story from within their game world.
So far everyone has had a go at creating the terrain for their first level and has been getting to grips with the controls as well as how to build mountains, colour the water, plant trees and make friends with dragons!
