Well, they say times flies when you are having fun, and that all good things must come to an end.
It has been a great year as P6b plus a random teacher, but sadly we had to say goodbye yesterday :( So let’s celebrate a year of making new friends, learning new things and taking on new challenges together!
What were your favourite trips, topics, activities, lessons and moments of the year?
I would like to thank all the pupils for being such a great class and for all their lovely cards and presents! (Emma’s poem made me cry!) I’d also like to thank all the parents for their support over the year with our trips, home learning, sponsored events and parent consultation feedback. :)
As a reward for achieving our Listening to Learn, Learning to Listen target, I organised a workshop with Mrs Collins just for P6b last Monday.
We did a brainstorm about the things we would like to do better in art, and we asked Mrs Collins for help with drawing animals and groups of people.
In her workshop Mrs Collins showed us how to plan out the main shapes with a light touch, focus on getting main features like the eyes right first, and then practice tone and texture on the side of our page. We brought in pictures of our pets and friends to draw from, and the results are very impressive!
ASK THE ARTIST!
If you have a question for Mrs Collins about her work as an illustrator or as an artist, or a question about techniques in drawing and painting, you can post them here as a comment, and then Mrs Collins can post a reply here to you
Today we all took part in the 2009 Tesco Great School Run! We all completed 7 laps of Musselburgh Rugby Club grounds and everyone had a great time! For more details visit the main Campie Primarty School blog
P6 pupils spent the day at Musselburgh Grammar School yesterday for an Enterprise Me event. Campie pupils joined forces with pupils from Loretto RC and Musselburgh Burgh Primary Schools to form teams of around 8. They were set the challenge of coming up with a company name and logo, and then, with the Homecoming Scotland theme, produce a collection of Scottish gifts for ‘Gifts Galore’.
Within each team pupils organised themselves into buyers, designers, production, quality control managers, sellers, finance managers and managing directors. They all worked collaboratively to produce as many good quality bookmarks, postcards, gift tags, table decorations and birthday cards as possible within a few hours. Selling to the buyers gave them cheques to cash at the bank and this money was either spent on more materials or kept as profit.
Everyone worked really hard and produced some fantastic gifts!!
There were two special awards handed out at the end of the day: Team Making Most Profit and Team Producing Highest Quality. Our pupils formed part of both winning teams, and, in fact, the most profitable team was 100% Campie! Well done everyone!
Last night P6 had a disco. It was only a pound but it was really fun we had music and juice. We had a blast! We had a famous five challenge girls vs Boys!
Guess who won: THE GIRLS!!! Yeah the girls were well better dancers than boys - go girls!
We finally did the pitch to the Dragons, who were Mrs Clarke, Miss Haldane & Ms McCloud. They were hard to please but we got through it! Some people got all the investment they asked for and some got none! We all did our best to pitch!

Miss Collins: Thanks for this Natalie! Yes, the big day arrived very suddenly on Wednesday last week and the Dragons and I were very impressed by just how well everyone had prepared and thought about their products The questions from the Dragons were certainly very tough but everyone coped really well and showed a lot of quick-thinking and confidence!
Here are the PowerPoints that our groups put together:
There are lots and lots of great photos from our project and lots more to say about all the work that we put into it, so I think a new Dragons’ Den page might need to go up soon! We took some great video too, so as soon as I work out how to take everyone’s full names out of the start I can add them to the new page.
Through our Dragon’s Den Project we have been talking a lot about Enterprise Skills. Two of these skills are resilience and perseverance, and we have done lots of things in P6 that have tested and developed them. For example, losing our work repeatedly in animation and having to film them all over again, or having to edit and improve our writing work.
However, we haven’t just been looking at how having resilience and perseverance is important in our school work. We have also seen great examples of what people who refuse to give up can achieve in the media.
Sir Ranulph Fiennes became the oldest person to climb Mount Everest last month, and at the same time also became the only human ever to have walked to both poles and to the top of the world’s highest mountain. It was actually his 3rd attempt at Mount Everest, so he clearly is a man who boasts serious resilience and perseverance!
This week we also watched the amazing bike stunts of Danny MacAskill on YouTube. He’s originally from Skye and now lives in Edinburgh, and you can see all the famous places of the capital in his film. We think that these stunts must have gone wrong many times before he was able to perform them as well as this, so his perseverance and resilience to all the bumps and bruises have made him the world-class stunt rider he is now.
Hello and ‘Thank You’ to everyone who came out to support me on Sunday as I ran the Edinburgh Marathon for our school charity Water Aid. So far I have collected a massive £219.55 for WaterAid -Thank you very much to everyone who has sponsored me! :)
It was very, very hot, and as it was also my first ever marathon it was really tough! But seeing all your lovely faces and banners gave me a huge boost -I think the other runners got jealous as I ran into Musselburgh as I had so many people shouting and waving me on. I really couldn’t have done it without you all! I finally crossed the line after 4 hours 8 minutes and 50 seconds
Our PGDE student, Miss Murphy, ended her placement with our class today…. BOOOOOO!
But we all enjoyed having her and she tought us lots of interesting things….. YEAAAAAAAH!
Miss Murphy spent 5 weeks with our class and taught us all about renewable energy, electrical circuits, similes and metaphors, 3D shapes and symmetry… and quite a few things about Ireland too! It was a hectic few weeks and it all passed in a flash! We are sad to see her go, and we all made cards, badges and even a crown for her leaving ceremony today! We also named her an honorary special person of the week! Good bye and thank you Miss Murphy!
Hi Susannah here just to write about what’s going to happen on the 31st of May. Miss Collins is going to do the Edinburgh Marathon which is a whooping 26.2 miles!! She is raising money for our school charity Water Aid. So if you see someone wearing the Water Aid logo and a blue tutu give her a wave and a cheer! =]
