Are there any Ancient Trees at Campie? December 2, 2008
Posted by campiep67 in : Uncategorized , trackbackAs part of our Woodlands topic we were looking at ancient trees. As a class we decided on a key question which ended up being: Are There Any Ancient Trees at Campie? We also played a true or false game to find out how trees grow best. After that we read “Measuring the Girth of a Tree” leaflet supplied by Woodland Trust. It said that we had to measure 1.5m up the tree and then measure around it at that height. If the tree is slanted then measure 1.5m up from the tree side nearest to the ground. We decided on groups and went and got our materials: A Measuring tape, pencil, clipboard and a data recording sheet. When we went outside measured the trees and came back in, we divided the girth by 2.5 because that is how much a tree grows a year. After we did this,we put together a scientific report and we found out that there are no ancient trees around Campie but some quite old ones.
