Lagganlia
Hey all! Miss Porter here reporting the news back from Lagganlia. Unfortunately, there have been a few problems with the computers and the kids are unable to blog or upload any pics! Nightmare, but I must say nobody has even asked (sorry) there has been so much going on and everyone getting so involved that not one child has even mentioned home!!! Each and every one of them has been getting stuck into the challenges put their way. Fantastic to see, and as their teachers, we are very proud!!
I returned from Lagganlia this evening and was sorry to leave everyone behind as so much fun was being had.
Monday…………
After arriving safely the kids had to make their beds (very entertaining!)and after settling into their bedrooms everyone met in the common room for the first group brief. The kids got into their groups and met their instructors for the week. Each group went off on their first adventure. Some kids were walking, some problem solving and some went to the rope course. The team challenges had begun. Group 3 were the first to try out the Rope course or to get tangled in the rope course as Matthew C demonstrated. He got in a right tangle, but credit where credit’s due –untangled himself just as quickly. Don’t think we’ve ever laughed so much.
In the evening we all enjoyed yummy lentil soup and pasta bolognaise before all taking part in some circus skills. Yes, circus skills! Plate spinning, juggling and more. Great fun!
After some banana cake and hot chocolate the kids went off to their rooms and lodges. Most totally exhausted and fighting even the thought of sleep. They did all go to sleep eventually (honest)
Tuesday………………
Happy Birthday to Eilidh!!
Some were up earlier than others but eventually everyone got moving. Breakfast was at 8 then there was free time for all. Each of the activity groups met with their instructors and briefed on their activities for the day. The fun was about to begin. Here are just a few of today’s amazing events……..apart from the persistent pouring rain of course
There were some spectacular scenes on the gorge –the river was moving extremely fast and was a good 10 inches above the normal height at this time of year but the kids and staff got stuck in (literally). There were 4 groups out on the gorge today (1,4,5&6)and all braced the cold and got UNDER, yes under, the water. Jumping into the ‘witches cauldron’, sliding down rapids and walking under waterfalls were all highlights. Brrrrrrrrrr it was cold! But fabulous!
Groups 2&7 enjoyed some archery with Aaron C being the champ so far –a massive116points. Well done. It was mighty cold so they then lit and sat a round a fire in the teepee. Nice!
Groups1 & 7 went climbing and enjoyed some abseiling. Scary but a great feeling.
Group 3 went skiing on the dry slope, Connor announced at the end he had mastered ‘skiing backwards’. I don’t know if it was intentional but brilliant just the same!
Groups 5&7 attempted a 60ft tree climb. Natalie, Seth, Ethan and Jade all doing an amazing job!! Wow!
Groups 2,3&4 got familiar with the great mountain biking trails around Lagganlia, the pouring rain made conditions tricky but all gave their best and most managed to stay on their bikes. Nick’s group(4) managed to find themselves in a field with a rather unimpressed Highland cow. Hilarious, (if you weren’t there) but they all managed to get out safely, phew. It always helps when you have a wonderful cyclist like RobbieG on board.
After the days activities everyone settled for showers, dinner and relaxation then the waterproofs and wet shoes were back on for MORE! The groups were blinded folded and had to make their way through the forest, together, helping one another along a ‘nightline’ or rope. They had to work closely as a team ensuring everyone tackled the obstacles successfully. By the end they were all head to toe in mud and grinning from ear to ear –AMAZING!!
Well folks this is where I sadly left them all. I’m sure they will all be sleeping soundly
I was going to blog this in the morning (as i promised the kids and the staff i would) but when I saw how many comments there were I couldn’t leave you all waiting. So I apologise for the rush in writing and any errors as - aah it is now 12.40 and my bed is calling. Night night.

Just picked up a very happy boy from the bus. I would like to thank the staff, so thanks. Lloyd has had a wonderful time and glad to have him home. I’m sure over the next few days more stories will roll out as they seem to have done so much.

Circus Skills sounds fun, Inever got to to that when I went to camp. Can’t wait to hear back from Matthew to find out what his score in archery was. I was a little dissapointed to find out he never got the highest score like I did when I went. I can’t really remembar my score but I’m sure mrs Baellie will be more than delighted to say.
Hope you all enjoy the rest of the week.
