P6 Hill Walk to Arthur’s Seat April 16, 2008
Posted by Alicia MacFarlane in : Uncategorized , add a commentOn Thursday the 10th of April P6s went on a hill walk up Arthur Seat and the surrounding hills. Before we left we went down to the art room to get waterproofs just in case it started to rain. Then when we all had waterproofs we went out and got in the bus and we headed off to Arthur’s Seat. When we arrived we headed off to one of the smallest hills first which had a rock on the side of it which was brought there by a glacier. From the hill we had a good view of Edinburgh from all of sides we looked. It was a small hill but not as steep and definitely not as tall as Arthur’s Seat. We then walked down the side of the hill to see the big stone that was brought there by the glacier and Mrs. Stark told us about Edinburgh before the buildings were there, it was very interesting. Then we went back up a bit to the top of the little hill and walked down the other side and met the base and they had bread to feed the ducks and swans.
So then after the ducks and swans were fed we headed off again. We walked up a little path in the grass and we then stopped again and had our snack. Then we walked down a path which was a tiny bit steep and slippy and one or two of us slipped. We got to a point where there was a little path leading off to a ruin it then started to rain so some of us put our waterproofs on. We heard a story about the ruin. We all then headed back down the path it was really slippy and muddy and we all nearly fell. When we had come down the little path we had to go down another slippy path and we found an easy way down and a hard way down as well. We saw another rock brought by the glacier and Mrs Stark told us another story about it and we got a photo sitting and standing around the stone. We then went down another path which was really muddy and so slippy. We all were a tiny bit tried but were willing to go on.
We then went to the Crags and we got a photo on a big rock and it was raining yet again when the photo was taken. We walked around the path and we found out that the path was called Radical Road and it was very bumpy and rocky and of course slippy. We all agreed that it was difficult get down because it was a little steep. When we got down we walked along another path and we had our lunch on the wall.
So we set off and it was a lot harder than we thought as it was all grass and then there was a huge amount of steps that we all found very challenging and luckily there was rocks that we could sit on and get our breath back and to get a drink. Then we set off again and there was another climb which was a little bit rocky. Then it was grass and we had two choices to go up the steps or up a rocky way- the steps were OK and not too hard and either was the rocky way. We finally got to the top. Yey!!! The view was fantastic and we got a picture on the top. We were all happy to have reached the top but when we had to get down it was another story. We went two ways and tried not to fall as we walked cautiously down the hill. When we got to the bus we found that the other group had finished ages ago but oh well. We had a great time and were all really tired after the climb.
