P3 Science Week Visit February 13, 2008

Posted by kcolver in : P3 , trackback

The P3 classes enjoyed a visit to the National Museum Of Scotland as part of our work during science week. We have been learning all about forces. We had an opportunity to explore forces at work in the Connect Gallery and then we attended a show called Alex’s Amazing Adventure. We had to solve problems to help Alex deliver a birthday present and help her to travel over water, along roads and over cliffs using different forces and types of transport. Some children even managed to get a ride on a hovercraft!

Both classes continued this work with lots of active learning experiments. P3a did some work on freezing and melting. The children tried to develop some insulation to prevent their ice cubes from melting. They also found out that ice melts more quickly in water.

P3b have been doing some work on floating and sinking. They worked together in small groups to find out which classroom objects float and which sink.
