Alcatraz
We went to Alcatraz this morning. We counted 21 students on to the boat, and 21 off again, so I suppose that can be described as a success.
The best bit was being able to hear about the attempted escapes, seeing the holes in the floor from the granades during a riot, and looking the convicts in the face (even if it was only photos). We all went into the cells to find out what it felt like, and which was scary and sinister.
It was amazing to think that people were held in the jail longer than we have been alive, and it was also unbelievable that people grew up on the island too.
It was a shame that we couldn’t leave the students behind, but the money you paid us to do it just wasn’t enough! Better luck next time in getting rid of them.
We’re off out tonight for dinner in Hard Rock Cafe, then leaving at 5am tomorrow morning to come home.
Put the kettle on for lunchtime on Tuesday, I’ll call the school from Edinburgh Airport to let us know a closer eta.

Still checking in here… if you are interested there is a book called Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko… it is about a group of kids who lived on the Island …. It would be a quick read for you, but very interesting… be safe… happy homecoming!

Glad to see you finished your hike with few mishaps. And seeing the bear the last day! Also glad the students now believe in bears since the staff members were the only ones to see the other one. Love seeing that the boys are breaking the stereotype shopping myth.
Tell everyone in Dunbar hello from me and have a good flight back. I hope it is sunny in Dunbar.
