To keep this short and sweet, Team Chaos (Jack, Liam, Luke, Mairi, Lily, Linzi, Iona, Kelly, Laura, Liz, Iain and myself), so named by Luke Triscott, had a real experience hiking. Personally I’m a little sad to leave the mountains of Yosemite, but really glad it’s over.
Day 1: We hiked 6 miles to camp in Glen Aulan
Day 2: 3 miles each way to Waterwheel Falls
Day 3: Back to the bus.
3 days without a shower provided many greasy hairs - but also many happy campers. The real amazing part for me was sleeping under the stars, and I’m sure many will agree. I was genuinley surprised by my lack of exhaustion, and so proud of every single member of the Team for making it (I’m looking at you Laura, with your twisted knee.) I could go on about the stunning views and incredible experiences but I’m sure you’ll all see many a photo and hear many a story from your own kids. So, instead, I’ll share some of the priceless banter that kept me going over the past few days (as it is easily forgotten):

Kelly: “Where’s the moon?”
Laura: “Oh, didn’t you know there is no moon in this country?”
Kelly: “Shut up.”
I had stuck a mosquito into my journal with Prit Stik (as a warning to all other flaming mosquitos) when Kelly, being deadly serious, pipes up:
“All you need now is an ant… oh and a bear feather.”
Luke also genuinley brightened up my hike with his stream of utterly garbage conversation. Quotes were known to be told from Anchor Man, Family Guy, and The Lord of the Rings - to name but a few. Both brilliant and hillarious, however cannot be repeated online.
Anyway, I was asked by one of our guides Betsy to think about 3 reasons to come back hiking. The most important to me were
- The amazing sense of achievement hiking brings (often allowing you to forget the pain you’ve suffered to get there.)
- Incredible views - especially waking up in the middle of a mountain (Jack found this in particular).
- Sleeping under the stars is simply beautiful and worth every step you take.
I will finish off with a riddle our other tourguide Dan told us - just to drive you crazy.
A man rides into a castle on Sunday, stays for 6 days, and rides out on Sunday. How can that be?
Thanks for reading
