Congratulations to 5 of our Business Management pupils, who managed a Top 10 finish in this year’s Stock Market Challenge. The event, which allows pupils to trade on a virtual stock market, was held at Pollock Halls at Edinburgh University. This is the third year that the Business Education Department has taken a group to this event, and we are pleased with another great finish!

A lucky group of 40 pupils from S3 – S6 were given the opportunity to Old Trafford Stadium, the home of Manchester United Football Club. The trip, organised by Miss Lal and accompanied by Mr Potter and Miss Plevin gave the opportunity for our pupils to see how what they are learning in their Business Management classes are applied to a global brand like Man U.
The group where first of all given a chance to look around the Stadium Museum and see trophies such a the Premier League Cup and the Champions League Cup close up. Also it gave the pupils a chance to see and learn about the history of the club. After this the group were given a talk on various elements of Manchester United as business. We learnt about aspects of their Human Resources, Marketing and Finance. An opportunity was given to ask questions about Manchester United and football in general.
The highlight of the trip was a tour of the stadium. This involved such things as walking down the tunnel towards the pitch, a chance to sit in the dug-out and pretend to be Sir Alex, a look a round the Players’ Changing Room and a chance to see where the WAGS gather before and after the game.
After a brief look around the huge club shop we whisked ourselves over to the Trafford Centre for a chance to boost the recession hit economy, even shopping has a place on a Business Education trip. While the pupils came back with shopping from shops they could have accessed in Edinburgh, the teachers took the chance to shop in Selfridges and spend a bit of their hard earned cash.
The department are very keen to run this trip again in the future, so look out for the next exciting Business Education trip to Old Trafford in 2010.

On Friday 27 November, members of S4/5/6 will be heading to Old Trafford in Manchester. The purpose of this trip is to see how Manchester United is run from a business angle. Miss Lal has been working hard to set up this link with Old Trafford. Staff and pupils attending the trip can’t wait to get on the bus at 4.30 am and see exactly how Manchester United manages to make itself into such a global brand.

On Tuesday 19 May our S2 pupils took part in the Your Money programme. This programme was offered free to Ross High. The day course allowed pupils to look at many aspects of money that will no doubt not only help them in their study of Business Management but also in the future. Comments from pupils were very positive and hopefully pictures will appear soon.

There are now just over 2 weeks until this trip departs. Final itinearies have been issued and it looks like this will be an enjoyable trip for all involved. Many thanks to Miss Wyse, Mrs Collins, Mr Maclennan and Mr Schmitz for giving up their time to accompany pupils. Hopefully a review and pictures will be up on the site before the start of the summer holidays.
