Strike !!! March 22, 2006
Posted by Brian in : Uncategorized , add a commentA busy day as usual but I managed to talk to some other support staff about the strike. They are in a different union from myself and there seems to be a little confusion whether all their union had been balloted on the action. It seems that the UNISON members in the schools who are employed by private companies such as FES and INITIAL werent balloted so will not be going on strike. It doesnt make sense to me that some members of a union will be asked to strike whilst others, just because they are employed by private employers, wont. Still havent made up my mind though.
In the afternoon a member of the Finance team, Alan Shields, came to the science department to help with a problem we have had with the automated purchasing system the council uses called PECOS. We have had a minor snag since it was rolled out around 18 months ago. The IT department had investigated and put it back to the finance team. After a bit of jiggery pokery it looks as though we may have gotten to the bottom of the problem, heres hoping. It was good to put a face to the person that is usually at the end of a telephone or email, and I am sure Alan relished the opportunity to sample the atmosphere of a busy modern school.
