HMIE Interesting Practice visit
I spent this morning visiting two of our classrooms in East Lothian with Phil Denning, our area inspector. Having met with Don and being a keen observer of East Lothian developments, he was keen to see how we use technology in Learning and Teaching, particularly with regard to the use of social software [...]

A Lesson in Communication
Communication has featured a lot in my day today. A project to ceiling mount all the projectors is currently being rolled out across the Authority. Managing a project that involves many teams - an installation team, interactive whiteboard team, janitorial services, property can be a tricky business. It is easy to assume [...]

The English classroom of today and tomorrow ….
I met with the PTs of the English departments this afternoon to begin to look at the technology requirements of the modern English classroom. The task was to look at current provision, consider current curricular ‘requirements’ for technology and to look towards future developments and to consider the implications. We recently [...]

Whitecraig Primary
I visited the p2/3 class at Whitecraig primary today to look at the work they are doing using Interactive Whiteboards. The school fairly recently had one installed in every classroom and I wanted to see the impact they have made in Learning and Teaching.
I am somewhat of a late convert to interactive whiteboards but [...]

Celebrating Success
I attended the East Lothian Celebrating Success event today. The event takes place every 2 years and gives schools the opportunity to show the excellent work they have been doing and share ideas. The theme this year was A Curriculum for Excellence and the schools were to demonstrate something for at least one of the [...]

SETT (Scottish Learning Festival) - Better late than never
This is my ‘better late than never’ blog about SETT (or the Scottish Learning Festival as it has been rebadged)! My impressions of the conference was that it was very professional and well organised. In the past it has been - as I understand it- the little brother of BETT, but I feel the seminars [...]

Glow Mentor Meet
We had the chance to meet with our Glow mentors today at the Scottish Learning Festival (SETT) Having had the chance to ‘absorb’ the atmosphere and learn of the progress made with Glow, it was interesting to hear the views of the mentors in East Lothian and begin to explore the way forward. As though [...]

The end of a week
The end of another week draws in. A particularly long week for me - the first full week in 8 … I really was a part timer! Thanks to Dave for showing me around Technorati …. I know this is probably ‘old technology’ already for anyone reading for this, but better late than never! What [...]

Back again!
This poor blog has been a bit neglected! My excuse? It’s the school holidays and although I don’t have the long summer break, I have managed to work only 2 days a week through the holidays. I’d love to say things have been quiet but in reality I have been trying to do my full [...]

Interactive Whiteboards - can they improve attainment?
I have always been wary of interactive whiteboards. I have seen instances of them being used in a very non-interactive way - to show the homework for the day, to look at information on a web site … and so on. Projectors can make a difference - turning a computer from a resource for an [...]
