Responsible Use Policy - your comments please!
Laughing Squid
We have recently decided to review the ‘various’ Acceptable Use Policies that have grown in our authority in the last few years as technology and the Internet have developed. We have tried to streamline the paperwork as much as possible, to make it accessible and relevant whilst still stiking that balance to ensure [...]

Glow - latest developments
I attended the latest meeting for Glow key contacts today. We were updated on various outcomes of the pilots that many authorities, including East Lothian, have been involved in. One of the interesting presentations was from Anna Rossvoll from Aberdeenshire. She has been involved in the latest phase, like ourselves, but has [...]

A Lesson in Communication
Communication has featured a lot in my day today. A project to ceiling mount all the projectors is currently being rolled out across the Authority. Managing a project that involves many teams - an installation team, interactive whiteboard team, janitorial services, property can be a tricky business. It is easy to assume [...]

Learning Hubs - a sustainable solution.
My first visit to the new Edinburgh City Council building today to attend the latest project board meeting for Learning Hubs -121. Much of our discussion involved considering pilot projects amongst the four Local Authorities involved. Pilots can be important for proof of concept, but there have been several already - Maine in [...]

High speed here we come?
We have just had received new dates for work to commence (again) to upgrade our Wide Area Network. Five out of our Six Secondary schools have had dates confirmed. Currently, our network is creaking and I share everyones frustrations with the hold ups we are experiencing. Here’s hoping this is the sign that things are [...]

A new look for Glow mentors?
More from our Glow mentor day on Friday.
Robert lost his specs when snowboarding but was happy with the replacements provided by Tess. These ‘Glow’ specs are modelled by Dave ‘Glowboy’ Rawson …they may just catch on.

Glow Mentor Day
Edublogger
What a really productive day today. We had our first full day Glow mentor meeting of 2007. This meant a very early start for me to set up and a fairly frantic journey for many of the mentors through the particularly awful Edinburgh traffic. We had a fairly heavy agenda as [...]

Glow Pilot - the feedback
I attended a meeting this evening convened to provide feedback on the pilot of the Glow. East Lothian were one of 8 (it may have grown) Local Authorities to pilot various aspects of Glow - we piloted the use of the portal. This was a chance for those involved to provide valuable feedback to our [...]

Learning Management System
We are currently developing a Learning Management
System in East Lothian. The hope is that it will be a system we can
use to track and evidence our CPD activity, link training to identified
need through ED&R, search and identify people with knowledge and
expertise within our authority and monitor the impact of training in
the workplace.
The question of measuring [...]
