S3 Outdoor Challenge October 29, 2007
Posted by Bill in : Outdoor Learning , trackbackWell done to Knox Academy for winning the s3 challenge on Friday. A dry but windy day this year. All the teams did extremely well. Thanks to all the pupils that made it a success once again. An unexpected challenge at the start as some cattle were moved added to the experience. Thanks too to the rangers, associates and all the Secondary School staff, both in school and at the event that make it all happen. I look forward to next years challenge.
The winning team are holding the Golden Boot in the middle of the picture. Congratulations Knox Academy.

Hans, The challenges are a mix of mental and physical teambuilding challenges set up over several kms. The groups have to work together to acheive the tasks to obtain tokens; tasks include;
Blindfold trust task - nightline through forest
Map reading and navigation - to locate the different task areas
Compass course - pupils follow a compass course to complete a task
View finder & photo trail - pupils identify views and locations using images and transfer to map.
Injured party member- group transports a party member accross some terrain safely.
The aim is to encourage groups to work together which ties in with the scottish Curriculum for Excellence, developing;
confident individuals
succefull learners
responsible citizens
effective contributors
we also hold challenges for other year groups on an annual basis. The golden boot is the trophy for this event.
Hi Bill,
Andrew from Knox here!
Just commenting to say thanks for a great day!
Hoping to do something similar next year, if there is such a thing!
Thanks again.
P.S. Loving the picture, everyone looking rather windswept!
Hey Bill,
This time it’s Rhona from the winning Knox team!
Definately going for the S4 Outdoor Ed Challenge if there is one. Got to keep hold of the Boot!
It was such a fun day and I love that picture, argh, my hair!
Thanks a lot!
Yes Rhona there is a 4th year challenge next year. Different trophy…so you will have to hand the golden boot back next year.
Well done to all your team
First time I haven’t made the event. It looked as well organised as ever (though maybe the cattle disagreed)! A huge thanks to everyone for taking part and all the staff & volunteers who made it possible. It’s great to see such good feedback as well.
