I have been out and about this last week or two. Great to be able to help out on the Dunbar Grammar Nethy Bridge trip(which included camping in the beautiful Glen Feshie. an unexpected conversation with the head stalker filled me in with some history of the glen including the deforestation by the Newfoundland loggers during the First World War .The timber directly assisted the war effort as the wood was used in the trenches in Belgium and France. The remaining trees were left as they were unsuitable so many are 300+ years old and really beautiful (The group have been camping under some of them(sorry no pics as my camera is broken!))Apparently they were cut using two man saws at head height to save the aching backs of the loggers. The timber was then floated down stream by a series of channels (man made) which are still visible.The group have been camping under some of them(sorry no pics as my camera is broken!). I couldn’t help thinking this was a great link into the Dunbar Battlefield Trip.
