Holding Back the Tide with Stepping Out at Belhaven Bay & Podcast December 8, 2006

An exhilarating session with unpredictable winds on Belhaven Bay brought out many thoughts on the benefits of getting outdoors. Spending the day with a group from the Stepping Out project we used the blokarts on the beach at Belhaven. Building them is a great teambuilding experience, as is dismantling and getting them back over a racing incoming tide! On the way back to the centre I was enthralled with what was being said in the back of the bus which led me to ask the team for a few words on their day which you can here on my first podcast. Click the link. http://www.alsite.co.uk/bill/stepout1.wav Hope to do more with groups as we review with the huge variety of groups that we come into contact during Outdoor Education days.

How do I get a go at blocarting?
Bill – this is a fantastic idea! I really look forward to you using more of this technology to capture the outdoor experiences of children. You have sparked all sorts of ideas in my head of how we could use podcasts and audio files to reflect on pupils experiences of fieldwork and other outdoor activities. Most importantly for the children, although they might not have realised it yet, this audio file will serve as a record of their experience blowcarting in East Lothian and I am sure they will return to listen to it time and time again. Great work, Well done!
I feel a exc-el blowcart outing coming on, followed by a pie and a pint in a Dunbar pub! What do you think Bill?
Yes perhaps a bloggers outing could be on the cards and we can record our own audio review!
Ollie, I will plan to use with pupils too, this podcast however was not children but one of the many Adult & Community Groups we work with so I hope to do more podcasts with different target groups in the future.
Sorry Bill my mistake!
