Angus,
Running to stand still is a great achievement, I feel more like JayKay from Jamiroqui in that travelling video, except everything is in reverse! Will see you after the hols to link up with some IT stuff.

I'm being told elsewhere that children are less interested in ICT clubs these days. That's being put down to ready availability of computers and better internet connections in the home. I've been thinking that there might be more interest in such clubs if the focus wasn't on computers themselves, and was maybe more about learning useful skills through creating cool stuff and publishing it. You've confirmed there's definitely a market there, it sounds like a popular club. Maybe I could come along sometime and take part?

Hi Angus
You raise some interesting points above particularly where children are sat within the class. As a mother and teacher I would say like all educational 'research' we need to be careful. Competitiveness for instance is irrelevant if boys have poor self esteem. I'm afraid I think its too simplistic to define children's traits and characteristics by their sex. I wonder do we reinforce the 'hidden curriculum' by continually saying for instance that boys don't like writing? I'm sure just as many parents with daughters would recognise many of the traits you describe.

Apparently, the enchanted man has been making some serious progress on converting schools in the last week, and I would be very surprised if the Innerwick SWAN's daddy, Dunbar Grammar SWAN, wasn't ready in the next couple of weeks. And I know the enchanted man is very keen to convert Innerwick, and all of the other ugly little ISDN lines, as a priority - so there might yet be a happy ending...
