Well it was hot, hot , hot in Oz but we had a fab time. My favourite bit was surfing.

We spent a lot of time in the car and did lots of singing. This is one of the songs we sang.

Bushtucker

10 04 2007

Our last week is in Margaret River which is the wine growing area.We went caneoing up the river with Bushtucker tours and for lunch we ate lots of different bushtucker. Some of it was horrible and some of it was nice. Dad ate a witchety grub. On the tour we went into a small cave that was used by The Aboriginal people many years ago. All the kids got to crawl through a tunnel in the caves, which was a bit scary. The cave was very dark but we had wind up torches.Another day we went on  a bush walk. There are gorges which have been made by the water in the soft sand stone over thousands of years and we had to be very careful because the rocks were very crumbly and we were very high up.

There was a bandicoot who kept coming to our cabin and we fed him grapes.Mum said he looked a bit too much like a rat.

We went to a much bigger cave today which had a lake  in it and we heard all about stalactites (that hang down) and stalacmites (which stick up ).

We will be on our way home soon .

Coral Bay

10 04 2007

We travelled up to Coral Bay next, it took most of the day to drive. On the way we stopped at shell beach. The whole beach is shells , no sand just shells. The next day we went on a glass bottom boat and saw all the coral . I got to feed the. fish off the back of the boat. We tried snorkelling off the back of the boat but the water was choppy and it was too scary. I did some snorkelling in the bay later, which was good fun. I saw a baby sting ray and lots of colourful fish. Mum went on a big trip on a boat to see the whale sharks but they couldn’t find any. She did see lots of other lovely colourful fish and some reef sharks.

Now we are in Kilbarri . We have been to the Parrot park, one of the parrots said hello.

Travelling North

23 03 2007

Hello 4C , yes i can see your photos, thankyou so much , please keep sending them.

Mum says i can look at your blog when i’ve finished my school work

On Monday we went on the water slides and then moved up North a bit to Lancelin. That night we went to the pub on the beach and had supper and Ellie and I found 3 giant’s pencils. When we got back to Windsurfer Beach Cottages it was dark , you could see the Southern Cross and The Milky way, it was good.

This morning when we got up Ellie and I went to the beach with our boomerangs to practice, mine has 3 kangaroos on it and Ellie’s has 2. Later on the family went sand boarding, it’s fun but you get sand everywhere .

Tomorrow morning we are booked for surfing lessons then we go further North to Geraldton.

Update from Alice’s Mum

15 03 2007

Hello 4C

We are having such a busy week we don’t seem to have had time to write up dairies so I thought I’d do it today instead.

On Monday we went to a wildlife park  http://www.cavershanwildlife.com.au

and saw lots of animals. Quite a few of them are marsupials which means they carry their babies in a pouch . We saw kangaroos , koala bears and wombats. We also saw a kookaburra

Here are some photos

If you have problems viewing the photos , it might be better to go to http://www.bubbleshare.com/album/136740.a377d27ea48

Alice has had no problems with jet lag which sometimes happens because of the time difference (when she is having her supper at 6 o’clock, you are all just starting your first lesson) and loves Australia although it does get a bit hot for her sometimes.

She loves hearing what you are all doing.

Nearly every day Alice and Ellie sit down at the kitchen table and do some school work so they don’t get behind, but on Tuesday we did no lessons and spent all day at a place called sci-tech , which is a bit like Dynamic Earth but much, much better. The best thing was this machine which made static electricity and made Alice’s hair stand on end.. We also got to make a home movie with Alice in it using special effects . It looks like she disappears in a teleporter. She is dying to bring it into school wehn she comes back.

There is a drought here because there has been very little rain. This means that all the ground and woods are very dry and can easily catch fire. There are lots of  signs like the one  in the photos to tell you the fire danger.

Next week we are travelling up North and might not be able to blog as often as there might not be internet connection , but Alice should have time to do at least one more this week.

Hope you enjoy looking at the photos

Alison Hunton.

Weekend Diary

12 03 2007

 weekend-diary-001.jpg

< p>On Friday I went to the colourful market and saw lots of fruit and vegetables. I saw didgeridoos for sale, they are things that you blow into to make a noise like a musical instrument. At night we went to the trots (horse racing) with a picnic. There was a bouncy castle shaped like a boat with an octopus on the top. We were allowed to pat a horse and there was a children’s race with girls about 10 riding ponies. My mum won some money.<

On Saturday we went to the museum. We saw a motorbike frog (it wasn’t crazy frog) and I saw dead sea snakes in a jar and a whale sharks skull.

Let me tell you about meteorites

They are peices of hot rock that go round the sun and they come from outer space. When they hit the earth they go cold.

In Perth there was a man playing the didgeridoo in the street.

On Sunday we had a lazy day, we went swimming and had lots of fun splashing in the sea. We went to the boat show.
