Hi there,

great to read someone doing something similar to me! I'm looking at evidence gathering in ACfE (not that HMIe seemed particularly interested, but nonetheless...) I'd be interested to hear more about how you're gathering evidence and examples. Please have a look at my blogs too:

Thanks Jane for your comment! It is a long time since I have had one!!!! Of course you can see some planning formats ,we can meet up after school one evening.
I think it was a difficult topic to cover in this way and as the children said it involved a lot of thinking rather than doing ! They moved onto Light and sound and seemed much more engaged. I am now working in 6G on a Tuesday.

This sounds very encouraging. It would be really interesting to see some of the planning formats you're trying, (apologies if you've already put them on the blog).
Could the children explain exactly what was quite hard about the project ?
Do you think it was the content, the approach or a combination of both?
I'd love to come and see 5G in action Jackie, let me know if it's convenient.

The teachers did look the part as indeed did all the children. Singing "We'll meet again" as the children left was quite a moving experience as they too looked the part, dressed as evacuees.

Well done Primary 6 your Learning Festival was great, you had really learned a lot and shared it with your visitors in such interesting ways. You all looked the part too. Your display in the corridor is very good, giving a snapshot of all your learning.

This work sounds great and very interesting, have the children published their work on the school web-site so I can see it? Or, could you put a slide show or two on this blog. When can you come to Pinkie to spread the word? You would be very welcome.

Having now spoken to all parents at our parents' consultaions this week, many commented on how enthusiastic their children have been about their topic. One mum jokingly said "we were really posh at dinner last night - we had to have side plates!" Something stuck then!

Jennifer/Sheila
It sounds like your Primary sixes really did participate in Active Learning ! They were certainly given choice and challenge which they seemed to thrive on ! It would be great if they could visit other schools to share their learning experiences.

Don
It is a bit early to say but that certainly was the hope that through greater choice and engagement the children's learning would be deeper.
However even at this early stage Jennifer Daly the class teacher has noticed that on a day to day basis, no child has forgotten what they learned the day before. They have been able to report in depth and with understanding what they learned and what their next steps will be.

Hi Folks - I'm really enjoying reading your blog and the wide variety of things you are supporting in schools. One question - it appears that the pupils are more engaged through the process you describe - can you tell me if their learning is "deeper" than it might have been in the past? - and how do you know?
