ACfE In Action

Last week I focused on the Golden Rules with the children and then we looked at rules for different clubs.

On Thursday we spent time discussing the rules that we have to follow in school. We looked at the Golden Rules in detail because they underpin all the other rules and behaviours. We talked about where we were to follow them - inside and outside school and on trips. We also discussed who could enforce them as even in Primary 2 we can forget that any adult in the school will use these as a guide. Once the discussion was over I asked the pupils to get in pairs of their choice, choose a golden rule and create a piece of drama showing them following or not following one of the rules. The class then guessed which rule it was - this showed who were the good actors!!

We then went to the computer suite where we are just learning the basics. The children were asked to type up a golden rule(s) - we talked about the space bar, how to get a capital letter at the start and where the full stop was. We also looked at how to close down a programme and not save the work.

By the end of the day the children were very clear on our Golden Rules!

On Friday I moved the focus onto rules they have to follow when at a club.    The children were paired up with someone who attended the same kind of club e.g. karate, swimming. Those who did not attend a club were given a game and asked to talk about the rules for it. Some children chose to work alone!   They were to come up with 3 rules they followed at their club and then dramatise one of them for the class.
