PTA

The PTA exists to support the school, assist parents and run activities that enhance the life of the children during their time at Aberlady Primary.

We are a friendly and enthusiastic bunch of parents who fulfill these aims through a number of regular and one-off activities which could be classified as fundraising, fun or functional – or any combination of the three!  Our main fundraising events are the annual “Autumn Fair” and the “Girls’ Night In”.  Both of these are also highlights of the PTA social calendar, as have been Family Ceilidhs and a Beetle Drive.  We provide practical help to parents, for example, through running a creche to look after children during parent-teacher consultations and holding sales of bargain-priced “recycled” school & other uniforms.  The PTA also organises refreshments at events such as sports day.

Funds raised by the PTA are normally donated to the school to pay for activities, equipment or other resources that improve our children’s experience at school, and which would not normally be provided from core school funds.  Occassionally, we use funds directly for activities that we are initiating eg. to buy chess sets to help set up a chess club.

The PTA has a small but active committee, members of which are elected for a term of 3 years.  In addition, there is a larger group of active parent members who regularly participate in PTA meetings and help to organise and run our activies.  Any parent is welcome to attend PTA meetings, dates of which are advertised in the school newsletter and listed in our calendar of events (see subpage).  In addition, our AGM takes place in November each year.  But you don’t have to attend our meetings to get involved:  there are activities throughout the year that you can help with - again, our calendar of events gives details - and you can choose how involved you become.

We work closely with Miss Curran & her staff team to ensure that our activities add value to school life, and we are delighted that she and her colleagues regularly attend our meetings and involve themselves in PTA activities.  For further information please contact Sharon Douglas (sdouglas@aberlady.org).
