P4/5 have been studying European artists as part of their topic “Europe”. We have already studied four European artists; Picasso, Seurat, MC Esher and Klandinsky. Everyone enjoyed art and I am sure we can post some pictures of our work soon.

Last week we were doing our art in the style of Serat the artist. His paintings are very famous, one is ten foot long. I enjoyed it a lot.

On Tuesday we received a letter from Sir Robert Winston and he sent us a copy of What Makes Me Me that he had written. He is a really famous doctor.  It has a lot about twins and your body. Miss Strang was really amazed and sent a copy of the letter for the whole class to take home and show their mums and dads, grannys and granpas.

The finals of the Talent Of Aberlady took place in the school on Friday. We were entertained with seventeen different acts; singing, dancing, beatboxing, drumming and drama. What a lot of talent there was on show, it was a difficult decision for the teacher’s to make. First place went to the Roadsters, second place to the Hula Girls and third place to Princess Pinky.

Thank you to Primary 5 who took the organising of this event on as an enterprise project. Eleanor and Amy were our hostesses for the morning and did a fantastic job. We hope everyone who attended enjoyed the show.

The Charity Club invited pupils and staff to pay to take part in “Shades Day” on Friday. This was in support of the Guide Dogs for the Blind and the Hospital for Sick Children in Edinbugh. There were lots of cool sunglasses and sunhats in evidence - as well as several bears to show that we care! Thank you to everyone who took part and thank you to the Charity Club for all of your good work this year.

Primary 5 Poems May 28, 2008

Primary 5 have recently entered the “Big Green Poetry Machine” Young Writers Competition. They had to become Eco-kids and write poems to try to make a difference and make the world a better place. They had to choose a subject they were passionate about and try to make the reader feel as they were feeling. As we are learning about the Rainforests, many children chose this topic. The poems have now been sent off to the competition and any winners will be published in a special “Big Green Poetry Machine” book made from environmentally friendly paper. Here are two of the poems, good luck Primary 5!

On The Go by Jack O’Malley

The monkey swings, the sloth is slow
but every single animal is on the go, go, go!
All the trees are being chopped down, ten million by the hour.
And every single animal has not one piece of power.
The monkey swings, the sloth is slow
but every single animal is on the go go go!
Some animals will escape, others are not so lucky
As they run away, they scale immense landscapes.
The monkey swings, the sloth is slow
but every single animal is on the go go go!
We control the future, the future we control
so stop the trees getting chopped down
and the mystery will unroll
The monkey swings, the sloth is slow
but every single animal is on the go go go!

The Wonderful World by Daisy Chambers

The wonderful world is suffering
and it may be all our fault.
But if we all work together,
Pollution can come to a hault.
Let’s recycle,
use our brains.
So that in a few years,
the Earth will be more than remains.

The wonderful world, the excellent earth,
will be even more beautiful, with a little hard work.

Animals are dying,
this is bad,
hunters are hunting.
Extinction is sad.

The wonderful world, the excellent Earth,
will be even more beautiful, with a little hard work.

Primary 5 Science Experiment May 11, 2008

Primary 5 have Science lessons every Wednesday morning with Mrs Penman. They are currently studying the topic of Solids, Liquids and Gases. This week they were doing an experiment to try to make clean water from dirty, muddy water using a filter. They were trying to separate solids from the liquid. As you can see from the photographs, their experiment was a success!
