We are very proud of two families from P5/6. They have both won prizes in The Family Drawing Competition run by Scotland’s Learning Partnership. The competition was run to encourage families from all over Scotland to be creative together and to learn new things as part of Family Learning Week 2009. John and his Mum drew sketches connected with cooking and baking, their favourite hobby which they do together. Those cup cakes looked delicious, John! Georgie and her Grandad drew pictures of their pets, a fish and a kitten.  Both families have won family art kits and have been invited to an award ceremony at Glasgow’s Science Centre. Their work will be part of a touring exhibition and will be displayed on Scotland’s Learning Partnership website. Well done to John and Georgie!!

P5/6 poems celebrating ‘Diversity’ September 3, 2009

Diversity

Rich or poor, black or white,

Discrimination is never right.

Think of the cultures we would never see,

If I were you and you were me.

We are born, we cannot choose,

Would you try walking in others’ shoes?

Iona P6

What Diversity Really Means

They’re small, they’re tall, they’re in-between,

They’re young, they’re old, maybe thirteen.

They’re French, they’re Greek, they’re Asian too,

They’re all the same, like me and you.

They’re rich, they’re poor, they’re fat, they’re thin,

It doesn’t matter the colour of their skin.

They’re fast, they’re slow, they can jump and run,

We’re all the same when we’re having fun.

Some seek peace and some seek fame,

But I know we are all the same.

Ewan P5

Diversity

Old, young, black or white,

Different people but the same rights,

Male, female, big or small,

Does it really matter at all?

Rich, poor, you must see,

It’s time to celebrate diversity.

Old, young, black or white,

There can never be a reason for us to fight,

Male, female, big or small,

It really doesn’t matter at all.

Look at our differences, they’re clear to see,

That’s what makes us special – you and me!

Davy P6

Diversity

Old and young should come together,

All conflict should stop forever,

It shouldn’t matter what we wear,

The colour of our skin,

How we wear our hair.

Diversity means difference,

I think it’s alright to be…

Fat or thin,
Black or white,

It doesn’t matter to me.

Brenna P6

What Makes Us Different

What makes us different?

Let us count the ways.

Our gods and our religions,

Our language or our age.

What makes us different?

Let us count the ways.

The clothes we wear,

Our skin or hair, an accent or a phrase.

What makes us different?

Let us count the ways.

The food we eat,

The friends we meet,

The way we spend our days.

What makes us different?

Let us count the ways.

Age or youth or in between,

Or just our football team.

Although we are so different,

Inside we are the same,

Respect traditions and beliefs,

Respect all hopes and dreams.

Lets link together,

And learn from all around,

No need to fight or criticise,

Hand in hand let’s harmonise.

Eve P6

Differences

Black or white,

Who really cares?

Not me, not you,

We stop and share.

Tall or small,

Old or young,

We all join together,

To have some fun.

Rich or poor,

Boy or girl,

Let’s celebrate our differences,

In this big, bright world.
