Bienvenue en Ecosse! May 30, 2008

Posted by jswan in : French , 1 comment so far

full_scotland-france.jpg       Quelle excitation! We had a very exciting afternoon last week when some French visitors from Trèbes (which is near Carcassonne) came to spend some time with Primary 5 and some of Primary 6. We used our French - we asked lots of questions! We did a little quiz about France together which everyone enjoyed and then the Primary 5 pupils did some Scottish dances for them. We thoroughly enjoyed their visit!  On s’est bien amusés!

On Wednesday 28th May an Aberlady team made up from P6 and P7 went to Meadowbank Stadium to compete in the East Lothian Small Schools Athletic Competition.

Aberlady have never won this before, so we were thrilled when our name was announced as the overall winning team!

Congratulation to everyone who took part in our victory and to the fabulous supporters who provided great encouragement despite the cold, wet weather!

Primary 5 Poems May 28, 2008

Posted by Miss Howat in : Eco News, Primary 4/5 , 2comments

Primary 5 have recently entered the “Big Green Poetry Machine” Young Writers Competition. They had to become Eco-kids and write poems to try to make a difference and make the world a better place. They had to choose a subject they were passionate about and try to make the reader feel as they were feeling. As we are learning about the Rainforests, many children chose this topic. The poems have now been sent off to the competition and any winners will be published in a special “Big Green Poetry Machine” book made from environmentally friendly paper. Here are two of the poems, good luck Primary 5!

On The Go by Jack O’Malley

The monkey swings, the sloth is slow
but every single animal is on the go, go, go!
All the trees are being chopped down, ten million by the hour.
And every single animal has not one piece of power.
The monkey swings, the sloth is slow
but every single animal is on the go go go!
Some animals will escape, others are not so lucky
As they run away, they scale immense landscapes.
The monkey swings, the sloth is slow
but every single animal is on the go go go!
We control the future, the future we control
so stop the trees getting chopped down
and the mystery will unroll
The monkey swings, the sloth is slow
but every single animal is on the go go go!

The Wonderful World by Daisy Chambers

The wonderful world is suffering
and it may be all our fault.
But if we all work together,
Pollution can come to a hault.
Let’s recycle,
use our brains.
So that in a few years,
the Earth will be more than remains.

The wonderful world, the excellent earth,
will be even more beautiful, with a little hard work.

Animals are dying,
this is bad,
hunters are hunting.
Extinction is sad.

The wonderful world, the excellent Earth,
will be even more beautiful, with a little hard work.

P7 Hillwalking Expedition May 25, 2008

On Thursday 8th May, P7 went hillwalking in the Lammermuirs with some leaders from the East Lothian Outdoor Education Team. It was a fabulous, hot day and although the ground underfoot was very difficult and some of the climbing very steep, we all made it back to Aberlady in one piece! All the children (and Mrs. Mackay) found the day hard but exhilarating and it was great preparation for our week in Benmore.

Here are some photos from our day in the hills.
